Hello,
There are 2 ways you can reset your bioshow to reset bios sata mode to legacy in hp - 2_bing.gif.

1. On the motherboard there is a small watch battery. Remove this battery along with the power cable from the power supply. Hold down the power button to fully discharge the system. Wait 2-3 minutes then reinstall the battery and plug in2_bing.gif your system. Your reset is now complete

2. Some motherboards have a 3 pin jumper by the battery. Lets say that the jumper is on pins 2 and 3. Remove the jumper while the machine is OFF and place onto pins 1 and 2. Power on your machine for a minute. (Note: Your system will not POST). Shutdown your machine and put the jumper back to pins 2 and 3. Your reset is now complete

This is a great troubleshooting2_bing.gif step for those of you having POST issues or no POSTing at all. Like other troubleshooting steps, this will not always work but usually will depending on the problem.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Thanks.

A600n sata in bios

In many computer BIOS you can switch how the sata drive acts. Switch the sata drive from AHCI mode to IDE/legacy mode.

Alternately you can use nlite and a windows xp CD to slipstream sata drivers into an new install CD and it will boot and install no problem.

I have replaced the hard drive on my HP G5000 laptop with a Samsung HM161GI drive. All tests OK on BIOS diagnostics, but Windows XP Setup says no hard disk is installed??

This happens because the hard disk is natively a SATA and XP doesn't have a generic SATA driver so from its point of view the disk is not there. You will need to go into the BIOS and set the SATA connection to use the legacy/IDE mode.

Every time i try to install windows xp on this laptop i just keep getting an error message. i was told i need to disable the AHCI, how do i go about doing this?

Installing XP on a SATA drive requires an additional step:

http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/how...ws_xp_on_a.htm

However, Most newer BIOS allow an Alternate method for SATA . . Go into the bios and check the "Sata Operation" setting,

change it to "Raid Autodetect/ATA if it is not already. Now try to install XP ( could be IDE Mode, Compatibility Mode or Legacy Mode - different BIOS use different terms )

some will say IDE instead of ATA)

If there are no such settings you'll need to slipstream the sata drivers on the XP CD, follow the instructions in this guide :

http://www.digitgeek.com/how-to-slip...rs-into-xp-cd/

or

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...-installation/

Or, you might consider installing Windows 7 . .

Im using hp 530 and when trying to re install xp

you need to change native SATA settings in bios. then you can install windows xp. The steps are below

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Press the power button and press f10 to open the BIOS Setup.
  3. Use the cursor to navigate the Configuration options to locate the Native-SATA setting.
    • If there is a SATA setting, select the Disable option, and then press F10 to save the change and restart the computer

You may need to go into BIOS and set the SATA HD advanced properties to use legacy OS (XP is considered legacy by many SATA drivers (in BIOS). The XP CD will tell you there is no HD installed.

My acer 9301 has a SATA Hard drive should it be IDE

It is ok if it is sata, what you have to do is go to the setup or bios (press f2 or del or f10 during start up, it depends to the brand, etc) and look for the Legacy ATA option (or legacy sata) and enable it, or it may say ATA (SATA) mode and change it to legacy, that will make windows to detect your hard drive.

check in bios settings the sata hard disk detect or not.if not detect then u cant install. Reset your bios settings to defaults settings then save and exit.

Install xp in compaq presario c700

The hard disk may be set to Enhanced AHCI SATA mode. Look for Legacy or IDE mode setting in BIOS menu options.
XP SP2 does not recognise Enhanced SATA mode hard disks.
see http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/10/23/windows-xp-setup-could-not-detect-and-find-any-sata-hard-disk-drive-on-ahci-mode/
You may be able to use NLite to make a CD which has correct SATA drivers.
