The supplied Software with this Camera is not compatible with the Windows Vista Operating Sytem.

You can transfer the images from the Camera to the Computer without using the supplied Software.

Have been given a Praktica SlimPix5200 camera. Have a Vista computer, unable to to connect. Keep getting unable to locate, even when using the disc provided.

well since you have a vista, you wont need to use its CD to get this connected to your PC; for picture transfer and all.

1.just plug it in
2.go to my computer
3.and you should be able to see another drive icon on your window that will look like a removable memory

but to make it easier for you to transfer files, you may want to get a USB card reader, so that the camera's memory card (SD) will just be plugged in to it and no need for the camera to be plugged to the PC, just a personal advice.

Compatability

Here is the list from Pentax as to what is compatible under vista:

http://www.pentax.jp/english/support/product_support_os.html

The best way to use is to get a free program from Adobe website or Kodak. That can transfer your pictures from your camera to your computer.

You can download PictureProject software from this address: http://chsv-soft.nikon-image.com/jpn/software/win/S-P2____-175WU-JPNJP.exe

That is the only Nikon software that supports Vista since your camera is "outdated".

Here is a quote from Nikon site:

  • We had released a Windows Vista-compatible version of PictureProject, v1.7.5, for use with the models listed below, and all models that followed. PTP (models supporting the PTP protocol) and Mass storage USB transfer options can be used for camera connection. However, the camera's transfer button can not be used to transfer pictures over a PTP connection. Set the USB transfer option to Mass storage to enable the camera's transfer button.
Currently, the new Nikon Transfer and View NX will replace Picture Project as our new Image Transfer and Browser applications. These applications support the same Nikon products as Picture Project.

Wont work with windows vista

I assume that you have already tried plugging in your camera and letting Vista look for the correct driver! If you have your original disk that came with the camera, try it. Even though it was not for Vista. Most USB equipment require that you first install the drivers before you plug in the device. I have not checked the Vivitar web site since I still use Windows XP but they might have a driver available for your camera. Keep in mind that you do not need to use the USB port to download your pictures to the computer!!! You could purchase a USB Card Reader that is Vista compatable and simple remove the Memory card from your camera and let the Card Reader transfer your pictures to the computer. When you have finnished copying your pictures to the computer, do not let the computer delete them! If you do, the camera may not work properly. I once let the computer blank out the memory chip and then my camera would not work until I reformated the chip with the camera. Then the chip would work again. Simply use your camera to remove the pictures after you have put them on your computer.

Windows Vista?

Have you tried compatibility mode? When installing the drivers, install it manually by right-clicking the setup program and clicking properties and then choose the compatibility tab. After that you can set to Compatibility to Windows XP or 98 and try installing it once again. Usually it is resolved by doing this.

If you want to just transfer photos, your camera comes with a memory card right? For example you have an SD memory card, you just need a memory card reader and you wont need to install anything to transfer your photos to the PC, you just simply plug the card reader to the usb port and insert your cameras memory card and it's as easy as dragging and dropping.

If all else fails, try calling the customer support of your camera and ask for a driver for vista...

You have Vista, don't you.. That´s the problem. Microsoft neglected Sony making Vista. It doesn't support practically no Sony stuff.
