Are you connect the laptop wirelessly??IF so follow the steps
1.open the browser page in your desktop(wired computer) and type www.routerlogin.com on the address bar and click enter. It ll ask you usernamand password.username:admin and password:password or if you have set any password. If you are not able to open the router page then unplug the ethernet cable connected to your isolated port on the router and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and click enter and give the user name and password.
2.Now we have to configure the router for wireless settings. In netgear smart wizard page at the left side blue screen
*click wireless settings under set up menu.
*In that page enter
name(ssid):netgear1
region:ur country
channel:11
mode:g and b
In security options select wep and key1 give your telephone number so that you wont forget the password.CLICK APPLY.we have secured the n/w.

3.Now in your laptop(wireless computer) scan and connect to the network.
For windows vista-start->connect to->select the network name(netgear2)and click connect->it ll ask for password, enter it(telephone no).you ll successfully connected. Now disconnect the cable and try going online wirelessly.
For xp-start->control panel->network connections->right click on wireless network connection->select the network and configure.

you ll get successfully connected message and you ll be able to go online. If this solution solved your problem pls rate me or if still unable to connect send me the reply i ll help you.

Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on your computer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password You can now change the default admin password and configure the wireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

Without knowing more about the network, I would suggest replacing the router and see if the problem goes away. Can you see other computers on the network when this problem is occurring? In other words, is the issue with the internet connection only? Or does all network communications cease to function?
