Hello Check it with a standard company burned disc. if it does not read it, make sure that either the disc does not spins inside, or the laser pickup unit is faulty. Just open the top cover of the set, and insert the disc, see whether it spins at high speed at first and then slows down. if the disc do not spind, the sled motor is faulty. If the disc spins, and still the player do not read disc, the laser pickup unit should be repalced.
There are two possibilities for this fault. The first one is the spinning problem of disc inside it. If loaded disc does not spins, the mechanism will eject it. The reason for this is damaged sled motor. Sled motor is one which spins the disc inside at high speed. It can be replaced. The second reason is of Laser Pickup Unit itsef. If it does not emit laser beam, the main system circuit will recogonise as there is no disc in the tray, and play function is energised, and will eject the tray out. Check for the first one. This is most comon fault with DVD players. OK.
You haven't specified nothing about the model number or brand name of you player. Yet i posts this solution, as a common fault symptom. From your description, I assumes that either Laser Picku Unit or Sled motor is faulty. Sled motor is one that spins the disc inside the player. Just open your players outer cover, insert a disc and see whether it spins as it loaded or not. If not replace the sled motor. If it spins, and the Laser Pickup Unit attempts to read the disc from its inside edge to outer, and fails to read the lead-in and lead-out data from disc, laser assembly is faulty and should be replaced with an idetical one both in type and number. In some cases, the strip wire that connects the laser unit to main board may get braked connection prints inside it, which cammot be detected easly. First of all replace this strip wire, and see the effect if disc spins as i indicated earlier. If you wants furthermore assistance, give me a mail, and indicate your need, as I may forget about the solution which I posts to you. firstname.lastname@example.org. OK.
Take it apart and see if the laser is moving up and down (focusing). If not, then the laser focus servo is bad. After it focuses, the spindle motor should turn and the disc should spin. Remove the spindle lock from the top of the drive case and before it spins quickly place the lock on the disc before it spins to hold the disc in place. If all these processes occur and it still doesn't read, check the lens to see if it's dirty or foggy - clean the lens with "Q" tip and alcohol. if this doesn't work, remove the disk and see if a red beam shines through the lens - if no beam, the laser is bad.
It sounds like the laser assembly has become faulty, the clicking you hear may be the sled mechanism trying to move and put the laser into place so that it can read the game, or could be the spindle motor trying to spin the disc for the laser to read it. My recommendation is to replace the whole laser assembly, which includes the sled mechanism as well as the spindle motor and laser. Good Luck.
Hello Look whether the CD spins inside the set, after it has been loaded well. If not replace sled motor. Sled motor is one which do spins the disc inside. If disc spins inside, and the set do not read the disc, laser pickup unit is faulty, and should be replaced with same type and number. OK.
just because you see read doesn't mean the laser is good. the laser has to read the toc (table of contents) for it to read the toc it must be at the beginning, it must be at the right depth from lens to cd and the spindle must spin. now if you have to spin the spindle that means it most like is not reaching the beginning of the cd or the spindle motor is bad.
I have a govideo dvd vcr combo that will not read disks.
the sled runs fine, the laser works, and it seems to try to spin up, but just WILL NOT read the disks.
