Make sure you have the newest service pack for Windows XP. I had the same issue, and spoke with TomTom, who determined that it was my Windows Service Pack with the issue. Update to Service Pack 3.5 or later and then try again. If that does not work and you are using a disk to load, go directly to TomTom and download the Home software. My disk did not work either.
