Question about Texas Instruments Office Equipment & Supplies

Open Question

There is an arrow pointing left on the left side of the display area on my TI-8250 Calculator, and a ''0.'' in the amount column on the right. The calculator will not do anything at the moment. I cannot clear it. I cannot use it. I tried plugging and unplugging. I accidentally hit a key or series of keys, and I am not sure how to correct the problem.

just type it in, e.g. 1/2 or 3/5. if you want to have answers display as fractions, press [MATH] ENTER.

I do not think that you can DELETE it, you probably just cleared the equation, just put another equation into Y=, and it will work.

otherwise, if you don't have any programs you need or so... just press 2nd +

SOURCE: No decimal display on TI BA-II calculator

Your BA II PLUS stores numeric values internally to an accuracy of 13 digits. However, the numbers it displays depends on the number of decimal places to which you have it set (choice of 0–9 or floating decimal). To set the number of decimal places displayed to three: hit [2ND][FORMAT][3][ENTER]This setting also continues indefinitely (even though the calculator is turned off and on) until it is changed.

This function is FIX or FSE near the dot [.] or above it, so press [2nd] the the [FIX] where it located button [.] for example then the dot [.] him self: [2nd] [FIX] [.]

On my TI-89 everything displayed on the screen is a mirror image, left to right. All functions work as expected, but the display must be read in a mirror to see usual display.


Reset your TI-89

Press left and right arrow and 2nd keys simultaneosly, hold it and then press ON. Release all keys and you will reset TI 89

It automatically rounds the solutions to my fractions as a whole number, how do you stop this?


The number of decimal digits in your display is fixed to 0, so that all decimals are wiped out.
To correct,
Press the MODE button.
On the second line you have FLOAT 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Move cursor to that line then use right or left arrow to highlight Float or 1 2 3 .. Make sur that the number 0 is not highlighted.

How do i reset the setting on ti 89 becuase it rounds answers a


Press MODE. Use down-arrow to move to the "Display Digits" line, press right-arrow, and pick an appropriate display mode. The FIX settings will display that many digits to the right of the decimal point, while the FLOAT settings will suppress trailing zeros.

My calculator won't turn off completely no matter how many times I try it, and replacing the batteries doesn't work, unless I take them out for around half an hour or more, which is extremely inconvenient...


There are several reason why the Ti89 family of calculators might experience this inability to not shut off. Mainly, it has become known that foreign material or, static charges can get into the ports causing this malfunction. Other reasons are related to the OS, APP's and, 3rd party programming.

Generally, reinstalling the operating system takes time and, you can destroy some of your previous work. My aim here is to give you some instructions so, that you can get your calculator operating properly in the least amount of time.

(Procedure 1).

Check and see if there is any dust in the IO ports. Figure 1, shows where and what the IO ports look like and, gives some idea where they are located at the top of the calculator.

Now look into both ports. Do you see any lose dust or material inside. If so, real gently with something small and non-metal (like a tooth pick), see if you can get any lose dust and debris out of the holes.

Warning! "Do Not Use Force To Get Obstructions Out".

Once you have the ports as clean as you can, blow into them with about a one second bursts. Make sure you do not spit! Now press [2nd] key and the [ON] key to turn the calculator off. Did the calculator turn off? If yes, then your done. If no, go to (Procedure 2).

(Procedure 2).

On the TI-89 family, press and hold the [2nd] key, left arrow, and right arrow; then press and release the [ON] key. This should reinitialize the operating system, in which you should see a progress bar filling on the screen. This is in hope that if any internal program was running it will now be turned off. On the TI-92 family or Voyage 200 can do the same procedure just use the [HAND] key in place of the 2 arrow keys. Now press [2nd] key and the [ON] key to turn the calculator off. Did the calculator turn off? If yes, then your done. If no, go to (Procedure 3).

(Procedure 3).

1. Press [F5], If successful the screen will display as shown below. Goto step 2.

3. Press [alpha] [S] No screen shot could be given. Go to step 4.

4. Press [0], This key is the number zero and, not the letter O. Make sure you enter the number 0 to RETURN to the Home screen. If successful the screen will display as shown below. Goto step 5.

5. Press [2nd] [Quit], If successful the screen will display as shown below. Goto step 6.

6. A repeat of (Procedure2). On the TI-89 family, press and hold the [2nd] key, left arrow, and right arrow; then press and release the [ON] key. This should reinitialize the operating system, in which you should see a progress bar filling on the screen. Steps to re-installing the operating system:

• Connect the TI Connectivity cable between the PC and the calculator.
• Click on Start >> Programs >> TI Tools >> TI Connect >> TI OSDownloader
• Follow the on-screen directions to reinstall the calculator's OS.

Here are a couple of ways to do this:
  • 1 0 0 0 x^-1 ENTER x^-1 is the inverse key, just below the MATH key on the leftmost column of the keyboard.
  • 1 0 0 0 ^ (-) 1 ENTER ^ is just above the divide key on the rightmost column of the keyboard. (-) is to the right of the decimal point on the bottom row of the keyboard.

My trignometery calculations are off by one-two points. What can I do to fix it.


I am not quite sure what you mean by "OFF BY ONE-TWO POINTS".
If you have a problem of "precision" you can increase the number of digits that the calculator displays.
  1. Press [MODE]
  2. Use down arrow to highlight the line FLOAT 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
  3. Use right arrow to move cursor to one of the numbers on the line and press [ENTER].
  4. The number you will select will set the number of decimal digits displayed.
Keep in mind though that most of the "precision" one may be seeking is illusory.

When doing trigonometric calculations make sure the angle unit set in the calculator is the one your problem requires (deg, radian.)

There is a key near which is marked on calculator body F<>D (F left pointing arrow right pointing arrow D)
To toggle between fractions and decimal you press [2nd][F<>D]

How do I use the intersect function on the TI-84 plus calculator


  1. You draw two or more graphs.
  2. After the graphs are displayed, press [2nd][TRACE] to access the (CALC)ulate menu.
  3. Select [5:Interesct]
  4. You will be prompted for a first curve: the equation of the curve will be displayed at the top left corner of the screen. If it is one the intersecting curves, press [ENTER]
  5. You will be prompted for the second curve. (You can move from one curve to another by pressing the UpArrow or DownArrow).
  6. After two curves are selected, you will be prompted for a guess for the X-value of an intersection point: you can use the keypad to enter a guess or use the left or right arrow to move the cursor towards a point of your choosing (if there are more than one point).
  7. After a short while the calculator gives you a solution.
  8. If it fails, you must make a better guess.

I need to fix the calculator to float 5 decimals,apparently it's not floating.


If you want your calculator to display the results with 5 decimal digits:
  1. Open the [MODE] configuration screen.
  2. On first line highlight [NORMAL], if it is not already highlighted and press [ENTER] to validate.
  3. Use Down arrow key once to reach the line Float 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
  4. Use right or left arrow key to highlight the number 5 in the foregoing list (Float 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9).
  5. Press ENTER to validate your choice
  6. Press [2nd][Quit] to exit the [MODE] configuration screen.

My TI-83 Plus Calculator automatically round off my answers. How do I turn it off.


Hello,
Press [MODE]. Use arrow down to go to second line Float. Use left arrow key to move cursor to a number other than zero and press [ENTER]. If you highlight 2 your results will have 2 decimal digits, but if 0 is highlighted all results will be integers (no decimals).
