Sounds like a faulty switch under the button. Have a look on ebay for a replacement.

Dell inspirion n5030 laptop

Are you using the touchpad, or a regular mouse plugged into the laptop. If you are using the touchpad on the laptop, make sure it is enabled. There is a button to the right of the F12 key to enable/disable the touchpad. If you are using an external mouse connected to the laptop, try restarting the computer by pressing the power button once (that will initiate a shut down).

My touch pad not working probably .

Adel Heider,

You may want to first download the driver and install it into the system from the link below.

Erratic Pointer Movement

Here are some easy steps to take to determine the problem with a touch pad demonstrating erratic pointer movement:
  1. Get the latest driver from support.dell.com - Most problems can be corrected with a simple driver download. This should always be one of the first steps when diagnosing any touch pad problem.
  2. Check for hand and finger placement - The most common cause of random pointer movement is that the touch pad senses a finger or part of the hand near the surface of the device.
    • Have the customer attempt to use the touch pad normally but to pay attention to the location of his or her hands and fingers. Are any straying too close to the touch pad?
    • Adjust the Touch Sensitivity and TouchCheck settings in the Touch Pad Settings section of the Dell Touchpad Properties.
  3. Try an external mouse - Does this problem happen with an external mouse attached?
    • The Device Select section of the Dell Touchpad Properties has options to enable or disable the touch pad or external mouse. Try several combinations of these settings.
    • If the problems only occur when the touch pad is enabled and do not occur any time a mouse or other external device is used, then the issue is related to the touch pad.
  4. Check for mechanical problems - If the problem cannot be corrected by adjusting the settings mentioned above and only occurs with the touch pad enabled, then this could indicate a mechanical problem.
    • Press down on the palm rest on first the left side of the touch pad and then the right. See if the cursor starts moving on its own.
    • Run Dell 32-bit Diagnostics and try to recreate the problems there. If either of these situations occur, then replace the palm rest.

No Pointer Movement

No pointer movement from the touch pad (or track stick, if available) usually is the result of one of two things: The touch pad has been disabled in the driver interface, or the touch pad cable is damaged or disconnected. Follow the steps below to determine the problem.
  1. Connect an external mouse - In either situation, an external mouse should still function. If it does not, try booting into Safe Mode and testing both devices again.
  2. Enable the touch pad in the driver settings - Using the external mouse (or key strokes if no mouse is available), go into the Dell Touchpad Properties. Go to the Device Select section and enable the touch pad. If already enabled, get the latest driver from support.dell.com.
  3. Test the device in Dell 32-bit Diagnostics - To eliminate a potential software problem, run the Dell 32-bit Diagnostics and test the device here.
  4. Check for mechanical problems - As a last resort, press down on the palm rest where the touch pad connector is located on the system board. If the pointer reacts in some way, then the cable may just need to be reseated. Otherwise, replace the palm rest.

I have a dell insipron 1545, the mouse keys below the touchpad have stopped working in normal mode but will work in safe mode. I have Windows Vista

It seems to be a conflict with Touchpad drivers. For once, you can try a System Restore to resolve this issue. Else, you need to install the Dell touchpad drivers and application from the Dell support website to resolve this. You can download the drivers from the link after you select the correct Operating system version: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INSPIRON1545&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=. Save the file on desktop and right click on it, to Run as Administrator. Install the drivers and reboot your system. Now your Touchpad should work normally even in safemode.

My right click menu pop's up when ever i try to click on my laptop anywhere, i have a DELL inspiron 1520.

is your pointer set to be opposite... go into control panel and mouse options, and see if you accidentally switched your mouse clicker buttons.... try clicking with the right click, does it still open your 'right-click' menu? does it work normal on an external mouse?

maybe its just a setting issue,... if not then prolly need a new mouse pad...

Laptop touch pad doesn't work properly

Here is what I did to get the touchpad to start working again. My laptop is Gateway and a couple years old, running Windows Vista.

1. Start>Control Panel
2. Double-click on Mouse icon (or button, depending on how you're systems set up).
3. When a the Mouse Properties window pops up, choose the Device Settings tab.
4. Click on the Settings... button.
5. A new window pops up and on the right side there is a list of options - choose Tapping.
6. Once clicked, there is a check box that allows you to Enable Tapping.
7. Click OK to close out your windows and the tapping option should be enabled on your touchpad.

Hopefully this helps.

Dell latitude c610 touch pad left button problem

Will your laptop work properly with an external mouse? If so, check your touchpad settings in "Control Panel" by selecting "Mouse". Here you can reassign your Buttons. Try setting your Right Button function to "Double Click". If the "Double Click" function works on your Right Button then chances are you have a problem with your Touchpad Assembly which means it will have to be replaced. Dell refers to it as a "Palmrest" which they will replace if still under warranty.

Left side of touchpad not working

Go to your "Device Manager" (Right click on ‘My Computer', select 'Properties', click the 'Hardware' tab, click the 'Device Manager' button. Click the "Pointer/Navigator"). If there is some kind of a "Warning" icon superimposed on the "Pointer/Navigator" icon there is your problem!
Uninstall the DRIVERS for THAT DEVICE only.
Click on the faulty devise and hit the remove button, follow the instructions given by the program.
Shutdown, restart, the device will automatically reinstall by the "Found New Hardware" program.").
Or it could be dirt or soda.
