Without knowing the specifics of the particular engine that you have, I will say that .004 is the general valve clearance specification for most engines today. You should really check a maintenance book for the engine or contact a local dealer for the clearance on your specific engine. On OHV engines, you don't make the adjustment at TDC. You have to bypass the pressure release point by turning past TDC and letting the piston drop 1/4". Then set the valves at .004 clearance for both intake and exhaust. Again, this is a general guideline and it would be best to get the specifics for your particular engine. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Trying to find starter for 12.5 vangard v twin motor. my model number is 9108304 on starter but can't find anything the same.

anytime you deal with small engine parts you MUST be armed with the engine model number, code and type. on late briggs these are on one of the valve covers.

For models through 12 ci (first 2 #'s in model number), .005-.007 intake and .007-.009 exhaust. On a 13 ci engine .005-.007 intake and .009-.011 exhaust. I'm assuming this is a 'L' head engine and not an overhead valve. They would be different for an overhead valve and I would have to know the model and type #'s on the engine.
