Re: freezing up - shutting off -with stuborn power button...

First clean the fans out - these get clogged pretty easily.
If it gets stuck where you cant turn it off - hold down the power button for 5 seconds.

Hopefully the system hasnt been overheating for so long it has damaged the CPU or motherboard.

If the fans are clean and it still does it, you may have a bad stick of ram or the mainboard you bought may have problems.
I would inform the company you got the mainboard installed that it is having problems right away in case you dont have much time left in warranty.

Good luck!

No power when press the power button

After checking the ac adaptor and battery;

L300 series boot problems

L300 series laptops are very good normally but don't boot up if there is a device in the USB slot or a CD/DVD in the drive.
If it still refuses to POST, remove the AC Adapter, remove the battery and remove the hard drive.
Power the unit up without the hard drive and it should complete POST and complain that there is no hard drive. If that doesn't work remove AC adapter, ensure battery is disconnected and remove hard drive and RAM. Try again. If it still doesn't work, you have a mother board fault and it needs a service centre. will help you out.
If it does work at one of the options, when you have closed the laptop down, replace the RAM first and test, then the Hard Drive.
Hope this fixes your problem.

I just purchased a toshiba mini notebook NB 505 it has about 5 hrs. of time on it. Went to turn it on the other night and when it starts up the screen was lite up but nothing else. I can not shut down...

It happens when the NB was not properly shutdown, NB was turned off due to battery drained and left idle or worst there is a problem with the mother board. You may try this; Turn OFF the laptop, remove the power sources (ac adapter and battery). Without power sources, hold power button 10 secs. Put back the power sources, and power ON the NB. If the laptop will not boot by doing this, take it back from the reseller for replacement.

I have a toshiba LT a205; the LED flashes 6x; what does that mean? the psu is rated at 19vdc, and puts out 18.5 vdc. The end of the power connector that goes to the mb only has 0.5 vdc on it, so I'm...

19volts is a nominal value. The AC Adapter will be fine from 18 volts up to 20volts because the power unit on the motherboard regulates the voltages very accurately.
You say you only have 0,5volts on the Mother Board power input. There's your fault. Between the Mother Board socket and the AC Adapter.
Replace the AC Adapter or Laptop Connection lead if you mean there is 0.5volts actually on the Mother Board but full oiutput from the Adapter.

Toshiba Satellite L300 shuts down when ac power plugged in

How about this step, try to turn off the laptop itself. Remove the cables and battery just like what you did before, then press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Then, reinsert the cables and battery on the laptop and then turn on the computer itself. If the laptop restarts, shuts down or freezes with the AC power cables, two things that you should seriously consider. It might be the power cable itself, AC cable port or the circuitry going to the motherboard. And since you have cleaned out the fan and heat sink, you have isolated that problem. Have you plug-in another power cable on your laptop? If yes, then check if it works. Otherwise, the main issue is that the AC port is loose or the circuitry of AC adapter going to the motherboard is not not working. You can re-open the unit and check the circuitry from the AC port going to the motherboard. You may check the circuitry from AC port to the power supply if it is ok. If symptom persist, please contact your local dealer...

I do have a toshiba Satellite L300D and No full power or no display . the power only turn on but no booting . I am just wondering what could be the problem. In fact this happened only after I tried to fix...

As per your descritption, it might be due to AC adapter problem which is not giving enough power to notebook to power on. However, try to power on the notebook only on battery power or alternate AC adapter. If it does not turn on, then it might be due to motherboard problem due to some short circuit in the AC adapter.

Additionally, please perform the below steps before trying the above procedure:

1. Shut the computer down.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery.
3. Press the power button down for about 30-60 seconds.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter and the battery.
5. Restart the computer.

Are you sure the ac adapter is providing power to the system? You should check it with a multimeter first before ruling out a problem with the system.

Doesn't start up

remove the primary battery and plug the computer into an AC outlet using the AC adapter. If the computer starts up, one of the batteries need to be replaced. If the battery light on the of the comoputer is blinking, the battery has reached a low batery level, which may not allow the computer to start up. Plug the computer into an AC outlet using the AC adapter to start the computer and allow the battery to charge.
