I have the same toshibia 43h70, just had the 2 chips replaced ( 2nd time in about 3.5 years), but when it came back, the convergence is good for standard 4:3, but when I watch HD cable, the convergence is off. Do I have to do 2 convergences, didn't do that before, or is there another problem. Also, interested in knowing how to get into the tech menu to do an easier convergence, as mentioned above.

Near the middle of the chassis inside you should see two large metal heat sinks---the chips(2) are black and about 2 1/2 inches wide x 1 1/2 inches tall and should have the STK-392-110 NUMBER printed on them in white.

The hard part of this is first you have to unplug several cables so you can get the entire chassis tilted up so the bottom of the boards face the back of the set. You have to unsolder all 18 pins on each chip AND 4 metal pins on each heat sink--when you replace the chips(apply heat sink grease to them) the hard part is getting all the pins on the chips and the pins for the heat sinks lined up so they go back into the board.

Then holding a heat sink and chip in place solder each chip/heat sink back in.

IT IS A VERY GOOD IDEA WHEN YOU REMOVE THE CHIPS TO CHECK ALL THE DARK GREY RESISTORS AROUND THEM---most are 1.8 ohm 2 watt---they can be checked like checking a fuse--if one of them is open you will still have the same problem if you do not find and replace it---they are protect parts---if one is open--one of the chips got it.

After you replace you can go into the TECH menu and fine adjust the convergence--you can do the same in the customer menu but the TECH menu offers more places to adjust and saves these adjustments---I have instructions for getting into that menu if you need them.

If you can do the repair yourself you can save a lot of money as most shops get 300 or more for this type of repair--a pair of the chips can be bought on Ebay for about 12 dollars plus shipping.

If you have any questions or need advice reply to this posting here.

My Toshiba 43H70 started having the blue bow up at the bottom. Green and red are good. Convergence will move it a little, but not enough. Any ideas?

Your convergence has failed and needs to be repaired. Once quick test is to goto your convergence menu and see if you can adjust red and blue. If not its has failed and needs to be fixed. You can call in a repair shop or you can get the parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com and do the repair yourself. Its a fairly easy DIY fix.

Picture on screen doubles and there's red highlights at the bottom of the screen. Tried to fix with convergence but did not work. Model # TZ50V61. Please help me.

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

Hello, its very possible there are other color alignments thats out of ajustements and certain color lines will affect each range of alignment and
you will need a tech to come out and check the control unit on your set.

43H70 Blue Convergence out of line and will not line back up

If the blue colors will not line up, and the blue appears to sag inward from one or more sides, then you can bet that one of your convergence IC's has either cracked loose or burned out. The IC should be resoldered or replaced and the convergence realigned by someone experienced with projection TV convergence circuits.
