if the engine is in good shape..screw in both carb jets adjusting screws till they seat lightly, then back them out 1 1/2 turns, srew in the throttle adj screw a turn and start the motor,,warning if the chain is on make sure the blade isnt likely to touch anything when the engine starts as you will have to have the brake off to get started and adjusted. With the engine running, adjust the throttle srew until it is idling just above shutting off speed, then adjust the "L" low speed jet to get the best idling speed without srewing it in much, reset the throttle srew, then , while trying to accelerate suddenly each time, open the Low jet a little at a time until the machine accelerates smoothly without hesitation. Reset the throttle srew to a position that the chain stops running at idle and check again that the acceleration is without hesitation ( usually with "L" jet about 1/4 turn out more than best idling). The high "H" jet can now be set to give the best power while cutting a block of wood.

2. Damaged or restricted fuel tank venting system.
3. Inlet system air leak.
4. Vacuum piston malfunction.
5. Accelerator pump leaking or no output.
6. Plugged bowl vent.
7. Fuel level in bowl too low.
8. Restricted fuel supply passages.
9. Plugged jets or passages.
10. Worn or damaged needle or needle jet.
12. Enrichner valve not seated or leaking.

Hi Anonymous, if you have a carburator the usual suspects are:
1. Damaged or restricted fuel tank venting system (gas cap).
2. Inlet system air leak.
3. Vacuum piston malfunction.
4. Accelerator pump leaking or no output.
5. Plugged bowl vent.
6. Fuel level (float chamber) too low.
7. Restriccted fuel supply passages.
8. Plugged jets or passages.
9. Worn or damaged needle or needle jet.
10. Enrichner valve not seated or leaking.

Drive cycle


Here is the OBD2 emission system drive cycle test procedure.
Engine coolant temp must be below 70c (158f) before starting the engine for either the first or second trip
The fuel level should be less than 1/2 full
First trip:
Start engine, idle for at least 1.5 minutes
Drive 3 minutes, hold b/f schdl: 1.5-2.0 msec, selector lever "3rd" eng rpm 1,800-2,000 A/C switch:ON Hold the recommended b/f schdl range. Allow road speed to vary as necessary.
Drive at 55-65 mph for 1.5 min b/f schdl 2.0-3.2 msec, selector lever "5th" Engine rpm 2,200-3,000
IGN "off" for at least 10 seconds (not more than 5 min)
Dive at 50-60 mph for 3 minutes Selector lever "4th" keep engine speed above 3,000 rpm Allow speed to vary if necessary. Do not decelerate for more than 3 consecutive seconds. A/C switch ON.
Drive at a steady state cruise of 53-58mhp b/f schdl more than 1.8 msec selector lever "5th" eng rpm 2,400-2,600
Downshift to "4th" and decel more than 5 seconds without breaking, then idle for 1 minute.
Drive two minutes b/f schdl less than 2.0 msec Accelerate to 41 mph, decelerate to 34 mph, accelerate to 41mph. Do not completely release the accelerator. A/C switch off.
Idle 1 minute in park or neutral
Drive two minutes Steady state cruise at 31-44 mph. Selector lever "4th" A/C switch OFF. Hold the accelerator pedal as steady as possible. Allow speed to change if necessary.
End of first trip. Turn the key off the begin the second trip.
Second trip:
Start engine, idle for at least 1.5 minutes
Drive 3 minutes, hold b/f schdl: 1.5-2.0 msec, selector lever "3rd" eng rpm 1,800-2,000 A/C switch:ON Hold the recommended b/f schdl range. Allow road speed to vary as necessary.

I especially like the part where they want you to add four gallons of fuel. Not three gallons, not five gallons, four gallons. Gotta love those Nissan engineers. ...and of course they state that if the trace is not followed exactly (i.e. you botch the acceleration/deceleration) you have to start all over again from scratch

That trouble code is faulting the accelerator pedal sensor. The APP sensors are located in a TAC module mounted to the accelerator pedal bracket. There are three individual APP sensors within the TAC module. Three separate signal circuits, low reference circuits, and 5v reference circuits are used to determine the accelerator pedal position. The APP sensor signal voltages increase when the accelerator pedal is depressed.

i would assume that your engine still runs on carburetor. have your primary jets(in the carb) replaced. normal carb primary/secondary jetting for 1.6cc engine is 105/135. primary jets basically is responsible to acceleration, secondary jets are for speeding.

Hi, Chrisgaulton if you have changed your fuel delivery system, air filter size or flow rate, mufflers or exhaust system your carburetors need re-tuning and if your fuel system (gas tank, filters, fuel valve and carburetor) is contaminated with ethanol sludge, varnish, rust, dirt, water etc. or your bike has been sitting for months or years without running these components must be "PROPERLY" cleaned and reassembled "CORRECTLY" before any adjustments can be made. Tuning your carburetor is fairly simple once you understand the basic principals. You engine is a simple airbox sucking air in and blowing it out, it is finely tuned at the factory for maximum performance once you upset that delicate balance by changing air filters, camshafts or exhaust systems your performance may go down the and the engine may run poorly, you need to compensate the air-fuel mixture in the carburetor in order for the engine to run smoothly and at peak performance. If you are running multi carburetors you need to sync them first and make sure your air cleaner element is clean and dry for paper elements or lightly oiled for foam and meshed elements and properly installed. Here is how and where you compensate trouble: "TIP" if your engine "BOGS" your not getting enough fuel.
1. Closed to 1/8 throttle is managed by the air screw and pilot/slow jet.
2. 1/8 to 1/4 throttle is managed by the air-screw, pilot/slow jet, and throttle slide.
3. 1/4 to 1/2 throttle is managed by the throttle slide and jet needle.
4. 1/2 to 3/4 throttle is managed by the jet needle, needle jet, main jet, and air jet.
5. 3/4 to wide open throttle is managed by the main jet and air jet.
6. Wide open throttle is managed by the main jet.
If you are running lean, spark plug electrode color is white, engine runs hot and feels like it is starving for fuel you need to go up on the jet size or move the c-clip down one notch. If you are running rich, spark plug color is black or dark gray, engine runs cool, and bogs down when accelerating you need to go down on jet size or move the c-clip up one notch. When your carburetor is properly tuned for maximum performance your spark plug electrode will be a light tan color like coffee with cream. If you prefer fuel economy over performance you can go down on main jet sizes until a satisfactory level of lower performance is acceptable versus MPH, your spark plug color will be whiter and your engine will run warmer. These tuning adjustments will only make improvements if your intake and exhaust system have no air leaks or sealing issues and the entire electrical system is in proper working order and you have no mechanical issues. Check the fuel filter, air cleaner and muffler for plugging. Warm up the engine first. Pull the throttle full on and try turning the H jet needle CW with the engine 4-stroking, but which immediately 2-strokes when cutting. This will not produce the highest speed, but will produce the most power and least heat. Be sure to use fresh fuel mix at all times. Hope this helps!

I have a 2002 Chevy Cavalier. When accelerating and turning to the left and accelerating from a stop it produces a rumbling noise. I have also put it into gear, put the brakes and pressed the accelerator...


When turning, it produces a torque load on the rotation of the engine. The turning and this noise is heard, and can be duplicated while sitting still, sounds to be from an engine mount, or transmission mount that has or is failing. If more info is needed, please leave me more info. Craig
