The WEP encryption key is configured in the wireless router.
Go to the router's wireless configuration to view this key and you can then configure the wireless card with this encryption key.
If you cannot see the key you can setup a new encryption key and the configure the wireless card with this encryption key.

I'm trying to connect wirelessly, but its asking for a sercurity key code! What is this and where do I find it? Help, pls!

Network security key
Some later model wireless routers have the Password (ie.Encryption key) and the SSID already configured in the wireless router and this information is printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adapters in your computer/laptop.
If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit your requirements.
The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorized access. To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cable from your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computer and enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login and password and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID and Encryption key.
The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 to generate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to 63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits.
Most people use Passphrase which is easier to remember eg. I was born in January 1988.
The strongest and latest security is WPA2, the weakest and oldest is WEP. To connect to your wireless router from the computer/laptop, configure the wireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPA or WPA2 encryption key. Then computer/laptops can communicate with your wireless router. http://www.fixya.com/support/r10267861-network_security_key

Pls Tell me the WEP key.

Greetings,

The WEP key is located on the backside of your router. It is a combination of numbers and letters. Also, most routers give you the option to change the WEP to whatever you desire. But if your router is still in factory settings, then it will indeed be located on the back of your router. Thank you for using FixYa! =) If I have helped, please give me a rating.

The wireless networks are made secure by using the wep key.
The wep key was set in the wireless router. If you like to use the wireless networks you have to get the wep key from the person who administer wireless router.
Once you got the key you can connect it to the internet .
Thanks

What is a wep key, and where will i find it, for setting up xbox 360 thanks

WEP stands for Wireless Encryption Protocol and it is the wireless key for your router.
The length of a WEP key depends on the type of WEP security (called "encryption") utilized:
  • 40- / 64-bit WEP: 10 digit key
  • 104- / 128-bit WEP: 26 digit key
  • 256-bit WEP: 58 digit key
You will need to find the WEP key in your router's administration page and then enter it on your xbox under the system settings then network settings.

I need wep key westell model 327w

Unfortunately, no one could not provide you any WEP key. WEP is a key that you set to your router so that no one could connect to your wireless network. As an owner of the network, you should know what your network key was.

If you forgot your WEP key, you need to reset the router to factory default, configure it and set a new WEP key.

That is the only way. Thank you!

Hi! To find the WEP key on your DLink DIR-655 wireless router, you need to access the setup page of the router by typing at the url: 192.168.0.1, then it will show the setup page of the router. on the left side, you will see Internet, Wireless settings, Network Setting, USB Settings, Select on Wireless Setting, then it will go to Wireless Network Settings, Under that you will see, Enable Wireless, Wireless Network Name, 802.11 Mode , Enable Auto Channel Scan , Wireless Channel , Transmission Rate , Channel Width , Visibility Status and under that you will see Wireless security mode and click the pull down arrow, and you will see, wep, wpa, wpa2, once you select one of the security mode, it will show on the buttom the option to setup the wireless security. If you have any question pls feel free to get in touch..

Secure wireless connection with WEP but still picks up all wireless connections

If the unit has WAP as an option, use that instead of WEP. If enabling this still does not prompt you for a key, or you don't have this option, check here to make sure you have configured it properly... http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101675.asp

If that doesn't help, check this firmware page and upgrade... http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/d103242.asp

Hope this helps! : )

Setup security

To set up a network key (password to access the network), follow these steps:

Open your browser and go to 192.168.0.1
Depending on your router's model number, the username/password combination will be different. Try admin/(blank), admin/admin, or user/(blank), where (blank) is not putting in a password at all.

If you look through the tabs and option pages, you will see a section for WEP or Network Key. A 64-bit WEP key is enough, you do not need a 128-WEP or a WPA key.

Make sure you apply the settings before closing the page.

I would like to know how I can make my Linksys pasword protected. i have two laptop computers on my wireless system. Thank you.

Hi kisthene,

To enable the wireless security, pls open a browser at 192.168.1.1, pls enter user name and password, on the next display pls click on the Wireless tab, pls note down the Network Name (SSID), pls click on the Wireless Security tab, select WEP, next display pls choose your Encryption (either 40/64-bit 10 hex or 104/128-bit 26 hex digits), in the Passphrase, pls enter your alphanumeric chosen password (or you can allow the router to auto generate, though easier to forget) you may or may not enter Key 1 ~ 4 and/or TX Key 1 ~ 4, click on Save Settings button at the bottom. The router may ask you to reboot it.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
