Question about Sony VAIO VGN-FS742/W Notebook
Check your power supply, if the supply is good, then check the adaptor on the side of unit.
Do you have a power light when plugged in ?
Does the power supply have a light ?
Also you may try removing the battery and try to power up.

Testimonial: "Fast response and good trouble shooting"
If the three green lights above the keyboard stay on but the screen is black, you might have dead memory. Open the middle cover on the back you'll see two memory chips. The one near the edge could be dead. Push apart the two shining metal pieces at the ends of the chip and the chip will pop up. Pull it out. Then take out the other one which might be good. Insert it in the slot near the edge . Replace the cover and turn on the laptop. If it boots up with this single chip, you can be sure that the first memory chip is dead and everything else is still good. Now, you can either buy a new memory same as the dead one or upgrad both to the maximun 1G each. If it does not boot up with the single chip, try two good memory chips.
