Question about Acer Aspire 5520-5908 Notebook

6 Answers

Hello! I have an Acer Aspire 5520G Laptop 2 years old. On the weekend it suddenly decided to stop working. When I push the on button it goes to power up, the light flashes green and then it clicks and stops. A few seconds later it will go to power up again and then it clicks and stops. The whole process will keep reapeating itself. The only way to stop it is to remove the battery and make sure the mains power is disconnected. The screen stays black and doesnt boot up at all. Any advice apart from throwing the laptop out the window? It cost a fortune and has been nothing but trouble! Here I am on the web using our 8 year old slow but faithful desktop computer!

    HI there

Sorry I had to have my Laptop repaired by Acer. It turned out to be that the mainboard was faulty. I was out of warranty but under NZ Consumer Act I was able to have it fixed at no charge to me.

Try to check the memory card reseat or clean it ( the edge connector with gel eraser), do this when battery is out and its AC power plug.

Did it undergoes some maintenance check in two years. Maybe you should, dirt, dust build up maybe the cause, and some contact is building a thin film of insulation commonly on copper coated connector.

Sometimes some add in device is out/faulty causing erratic behavior. Other thing is the hard drive and ODD devices. Reseat ODD and hard drive.

And oh, check your battery, one usual suspect of that.

These laptops are legendary known about these errors. Rumor says it is caused by loose CMOS batteries. Try to push the case of the laptop in the middle of the keyboard when turning on with medium force. It is even better to push where the CMOS battery is installed. Just Google for some motherboard pictures to find its location (its perhaps somewhat left or right next to the power on switch).
If this solves the problem you should find a way to permanently prevent your CMOS battery from getting loose.

Unfortunately it sounds like bad memory. Depending on your memory configuration you can try swithing out memory sticks. Check with your manufacture about memory configuation requirment before trying this. If you're unsure how to do this it's best to take it to someone who does know how.

I cannot turn on my acer aspire 5520. when i press the on button, the light flashes and goes off. plzzz help

Hi there! this is a possible power supply problem or the power button from the laptop is faulty.. But first I suggest that you use a different working power adapter that is same power supply for your laptop and try to remove the battery and try to clean the contact point of your batter, to further isolate the problem, if you did this troubleshooting and still doing the same thing I suggest that you bring ur laptop to acer for check up and repair of the power supply system of the laptop, if your laptop still under warranty, bring it to the service center right away.. if not then u can try doing the troubleshooting..
