Question about Frigidaire FAC052K7 Air Conditioner

Beeping noises not sure if its the exact model, but pretty cloe. its about 6 years old. the ac is set on auto, and won't some off. sometimes you can change the fan speed, and some times you can change cooling/ fan, but it goes back to energey saver. you can't turn it off either. when you actually get it to go off auto, and work normally, auto will automatically come back on.

Hello JBESTER Defrost the unit completely and see if the pressures are low.If more than half the charge/freon(3+)lbs has to be added you have a leak.Make sure the air filters are new as poor air flow can cause ice also. The sniffer I use beeps all the time BUT when near a leak goes crazy! The coil can leak after 6 yrs.You will always will need a recharge untill leak is resloved.

Can you still re-gas the air conditioning in a 1998 model?

The rumors you've been hearing are about the refrigerant - I'm sure.

R-12 for years and years was the only type of refrigerant used in cars.

Since R-12 is now 'banished' you can no longer re-charge a car's AC using it.

Not to worry - there are plenty of replacement refrigerants out there to take it's place.

Don't worry about the AC in the Hyundai, chances are if the AC works now - you will not have to deal with re-charging it. Just be sure the AC is working properly before you buy the car and try to get some type of warranty, i.e. 30 days or longer on it.

I realize the car is 12 years old - but - sometimes you can get a dealer to warranty the AC for 30 days - maybe even the engine and transmission - if he wants to sell the car bad enough. If he (dealer) is offering a warranty already - just be sure what it covers, i.e. the AC, tranny, engine, etc etc. Sometimes the warranty will cover the engine and transmission but nothing else, including the AC.

Note: cars, especially older ones are known for having small, hard to find leaks - thus requiring them to be re-charged at the beginning of summer.

If I was buying a 12 year old car these days, and the AC worked fine at purchase - I would understand three (3) things.

Number 1 - the car AC might have a leak in it and the car dealer 'might' have just re-charged it "without" repairing the leak - thus - transferring the problem to me (the new owner).

Number 2 - the car AC might have a 'slow leak' and at some point in the future - i.e. beginning of summer - it might need a re-charge.

Number 3 - the car AC might still be in great working condition and have no leaks - and everything will be fine.

Bottom line - If you do require a re-charge - a qualified AC shop will be able to re-charge the AC for you.

good luck!

The outside heat pump makes a continuous buzzing noise along with a short intermittent louder/lower frquency buzz noise... the fan never turns, the house attic unit fan runs but the house never cools. ...

Sounds like your condenser fan motor (outside unit) is 'froze up.' Bearings are probably bad. I would suggest having a Service Tech check it out.

Not much you can do yourself - maybe look for an obvious loose wire or something (if you do this be sure power is all off).

It's possible a 'fan capacitor,' (a small grey/silver thingamyjig about the size of an oversized cigerette lighter) is bad - (it will have a wire from the fan motor going to it) but - "not likely."

If it (fan cap) is bad - sometimes they will 'bulge' which is a dead giveaway that it is bad. In which case you could take it down to an AC parts house and get a replacement. If you do this - be sure 'all power is off,' and you mark the wires when your remove the old fan cap - and buy an exact replacement - so you can hook it back up correctly.

Again, the most likely problem is that the fan motor itself is bad - and needs replacing which will run about $200 if a Service Tech does it.

Note: it's possible that you have a 'blown fuse' or a 'tripped disconnect,' on your outside unit - so - I would make sure that your 'fuses/breakers' are all good too.

hope this helps

Carrier A/C making buzzer noise every 6 minutes.

Probably the contactor, they have a coil that sometimes buzzes, after the contacts become pitted and no loger pull together like they are supposed to. It could also be a voltage problem from the transformer that is causing it, but I would bet on the contactor. Get it fixed quickly as a voltage drop across the contactor can be the demise of you compressor!

We had the same problem and changed the setting to auto and the unit seems to be working properly now. Not sure if this solves the problem, but for the past 1/2 hour the unit has stopped jumping between 00 and the temp we set.
