Question about Cameras
I have a stylus 800. it turns on. lens cover tries to open but can't retract then makes a view beeps then shuts down. If turned on while on view mode, i can view all pictures but gets stuck on delete. any help? Wasn't dropped or anything. Was taking pictures that day and took it out for another picture and this is what happened.

SOURCE: lens cover won't open
Most likley the bezel around the front of the lens has been dented, this will be jamming the window shutters closed, the only fix is probably to lever the bezel and shutter off. camera will still go

I had this same exact problem with my optio s7, and couldn't find an answer online to fix it.
I tried tapping the camera on a table (not too hard - just a firm tap), and it works normally now. I know this sounds a bit extreme, and perhaps you have already solved your problem, but this solved a lot of frustration for me.

SOURCE: Lens stuck and beeping
The lens is jammed.
This is a result of damage to the gear in the motor asssembly.
The gear teeth have been broken off & as a result the gears that drive the opening& closing of the barrel dont mesh together resulting in the jam and your 4 beeps!!
If your interested in selling it to me let me know.

Only lightly toasted. The drop likely damaged the lens tube (housing) or jarred the zoom mechanism off of its track. There is no safe DIY fix for either condition, but the camera can be repaired by the manufacturer or at a local camera shop. Make sure to get an estimate first -- you may need to decide if the camera is worth the cost of the repair.
