Did you check the voltage in the battery, better yet load test the battery. I bought a battery last summer and found they only warranty them for 60 days. There are safety things which will not let the mower try to start. I changed my seat switch last summer. on mine you raise the seat and you see the switch. I can not remember if I pulled the wires off and connected them or left them separated from one another. It ran till I could order the switch. The seat switch will not let the mower even try to start. On mine the PTO has to be off. You might want to make sure the brake is on and you have it in neutral. These are a couple issues I have had.
Sounds like a misfire, check the plugs and leads are tight. Pull off each plug lead in turn and see if it makes a difference. The one that doesn't is faulty somewhere (plug, lead or ignition coil)
Hi Sue and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. You have been quite lucky to get 7 years out of your battery. Given the age of the battery that is currently installed this is most likely your problem. You have voltage but very little amperage due to thinned out battery plates.... (
Let me know how it goes.
It also could be the stop switch is not opening up. On mower you have a stop bail that a cable is attach to the engine if this cable does not open the stop switch, when the bail is pulled back, the mower will not allow the mower to start. The stop cable may need to be replaced because it is stretched out. HTH Good Day. mate.
Found the air filters on both mowers were so saturated with oil there was not enough air getting to the carburetor. Cleaned the filters first with dishwasher detergent and hot water, dried them, then soaked them in aclcohol to remove more oil. Dried filters, installed on mowers, and both mowers now run fine.
