Re: ice maker

Mick..not sure if I'm 'that Bob'. Anyway, if the motor doesn't turn, it may have gone bad. Note that most of these motors are geared and you can't turn them from 'your side'. You have nothing to lose by taking out the motor and attempting to disassemble and free it. You can get another. Defrosting is best accomplished by either: removing the inside freezer panel and going at it with a hair dryer (wet + electricity IS dangerous) or shutting it for 2 days and waiting for it all to melt. Freezing is often the result of the door being open too much or bad gaskets/dirty gaskets.

Ice maker not getting water on new refrigerator

Check if the unit has a cold water dispenser that it will fill a cup. If so than problem is with Ice Maker. If not than problem is with water supply to unit.
If water to machine works make sure that the arm on the ice maker is in the down position. If it is up it will disable the ice making unit. Cycle the am a few times to insure that the switch connected to the arm has not gotten stuck in the off position.

On some ice makers there is a separate switch to disable the Ice maker usually right on the ice-maker not easily missed.

It is possible that the water feed tube into the Ice Maker has become frozen where it enters into the back of the freezer at the top. You can look through to see where the water fills into the cube tray. If ice is present it would be an indication that the feed tube has become frozen If suspected the safest way to fix would be to turn off the unit and allow for a manual defrost.

Next check the operation of the ice maker. Locate the arm in the up position prohibiting the ice maker from cycling. Wait three hours or more. Open freezer door and return the arm into the down position. After a few minutes you should observe the ice fingers rotating to release the cubes into the tray. If the fingers do not rotate I would suspect the ice maker or the connecting electrical circuit. Remember after dropping the arm the Ice Maker has to warm up to melt the ice cubes from the tray before the fingers are told to rotate,

If the fingers rotate then I would expect that the water supply solenoid has failed inside of the unit near to the location the the water supply is made. Replacing this part needs to be done by a qualified experienced technician.

Sometimes ice melts in ice maker. Water drips down and refreezes.

There is a heater built into the ice maker bottom to help release ice cubes from the machine. Under normal conditions the heater only come on when the ice maker starts to run and then jambs against the frozen cubes. When it stalls and jambs against the frozen ice cubes, the heater comes on to melt the cubes enough. I think you have a defective ice maker and the heater is coming on to much or at the wrong time, Since your temps go back to normal with the ice maker turned off, I am almost sure thats your problem.

Ice maker is not dropping ice

there are 2 things that could be problem, 1 is a heater element that heats the bottom of frozen cubes slightly to allow the cubes to be pushed out into the tray by plastic fingers under the cubes and controlled by a motor. best bet would be to get model number of fridge and/or ice maker and look for direct replacement online. There is a company out of Chicago that offers replacements for lots of models. Sorry I dont have their name, but google the results for ice maker for your make/model fridge.

Model was bought 1/92. Ice cube maker not working although we hear a churning sound that seems to signal something's trying to work! What do you think? KitchenAid KBRP20EMSS Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Those ice makers get stuck from frozen ice portions. Try feeling around to see if anything in the icemaker is frozen up or any foreign object. Please do this with fridge unplugged. If you can't find any frozen or other obstruction then use the hair dryer to defrost the ice maker. This is only a guess from past experiences. My kids once put pop cicle sticks in the ice maker wanting to make ice cube on a stick. Goodluck Google burdfrenzy

to solve the frozen food problem, turn the temp back to 4. this should be the factory recomended setting. the only dispensing crush ice is probably a bad solinoid. you will find this behind the back wall. it engages to lift the thin metal rod on the bottom of the ice bucket to dispense cubed ice. and the ice being frozen in the bucket is probably a bad ice flapper in the door. it's letting warm moist air into the ice bucket that is freezing

Ice cubes made by ice maker become large fused chunks over time.

Ice cubes will deteriorate over time if not used. They shrink due to defrosting of the freezer and will become stale.
Once the ice bin is full, turn the ice maker off until you use the cubes and or dump the cubes every 3 or 4 days and start over.

GE GSS25LGM Ice maker not dispensing ice

You have one of three things wrong. The auger motor is frozen up, the ice bucket is broken or you need to dump out any ice, run warm water through the entire ice bucket, dry it out and try again with fresh cubes. My guess is the auger motor is frozen. You can buy a vinyl boot that covers the auger motor to prevent moisture buildup and freezing from GE Parts at 1-800-626-2002

Ice maker problems

If the ice bucket is over filling there may be a problem with the ice maker as this should stop making ice when the bucket is full. The ice in the bucket can freeze together just due to the weight of ice cubes . I suggest you check the ice within the bucket is all broken up and not frozen into big lumps
