I don't have teh manual for this one, but can you post the markings on the bad component. I should be able to provide you with either a supplier for the exact part or a substitute.

Thanks,
Dan

KDRS505XSS freestanding double oven range has wiring faults and will not heat. How do we fix them?

Hi,

I would have this unit checked because the electronic control is 300.00 for this unit. I ran into this and the control was the fault not the wiring to the elements, but I can't tell you to change this because I won't miss lead you like that. Several tests need to be done to rule out a shorted element before the replacement of the control unit p#W10365424, most electronics are not returnable due to there nature of people swopping them and returning them. I think a service call is needed to be sure of the issue you have.

Good Luck

As long as you change out the connectors, you can run it anywhere you wish. I suggest a rear channel.

Replaced heating element in oven but still remains on.

When the bake element shorted out, did the element make a big bang and perhaps even short against the metal bottom of your oven? I am suspecting the relay on your electronic oven control shorted and fused together. With this in mind, unplug the oven and gain access to the electronic control. Now trace the wire going from the electronic control to your lower bake element. Once you have figured which one it is, remove it from the electronic control. Tape it off with black electrical tape and plug the oven back in. At this pint, the element should not come on. Dis it come on or is it off. If off, replacing the electronic contro is the next step or if handly enough, you can replace the relay on the control...Let me know if I can help further.....

Oven problem

if you had a power surge then the resistors on the board cannot handle it. i am no electronics expert however i am a range expert and usually it happens when 1 you live in a very rural area and have frequent power surges.. 2 get struck by lightning.. 3 may have a miswired outlet.

Changeing both bake and broil elements

I would recommend you check BOTH elements for proper resistance prior to replacing them. If both of them are not working, the problem may actually be with the Electronic Oven Control (EOC) board. This is your clock assembly. On electric ranges, the EOC controls all the oven features. Check the resistance of the heating elements by performing the following:

- Perform a resistance check from terminal end to terminal end (where the wires connect to). You should get a high resistance reading in the Kohms range (this varies between models). If the reading is infinite, you have an open heating element. (Must be replaced).

- Second, perform a resistance reading from one terminal end to the outer shell of the heating element. You should get an infinite reading. If this reading is a low resistance or short, the element is shorted. (Must be relplaced).

NOTE: Take these readings with the wires disconnected.

You may be right, but please take the time to check both elements and let me know what you find. You may have started off with a bad element, but it could have damaged the EOC as well. I have seen this happen before. The result is an oven that still doesn't work after the homeowner replaces the defective element.

The following link explains how to replace a heating element:

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Baking element

oh bleep, right? well, if you're lucky this will get you going again. 1. disconnect power to range. 2. remove back metal cover just above range power cord (usually 5 quarter inch hex screws) 3. look for burnt off wire leading to/from bake element. If yes, 4. strip ends of broken wire and splice with ceramic wire nut if no 4. bad news. replace ERC (electronic range control) you fried something on the board. It's got the clock display and all the electronics behind it.

GE 30" Self-Cleaning oven

I do not think that the problem is caused by the broil element, but I cannot rule that out. I believe there is a short or an open in the circuitboard. Unless you find the short or open you will need to replace the entire control board.
