The first thing you want to check for is if the igniter wire is getting voltage when the thermostat is on. If it is then inspect the igniter for any visible loose or melted wires. Make sure the igniter head is clear of any dust, oil or debris. Check the distance of the spark igniter electrode from the ground or the burner(if that is the ground). Check the wire at the ignition module is not loose and properly seated. You said that you tried to light the pilot manually with a lighter but if the igniter is not coming on then the pilot gas valve will not open so that is probably why you cannot light it. Verify that the ignition module is getting power and sending voltage to the igniter when the thermostat is in demand. There should also be a flame rectification sensor located by the igniter or it is a part of the igniter itself(combo). This sensor can tell when the pilot is lit and will tell the control module to open the gas valve so the burner gas can come on. This sensor could also be defective. There may also be a vacuum line that comes off of the convection fan motor housing or the flue that goes to a switch. If this vacuum line is loose or broken it can cause this problem. If you find the vacuum switch verify that it has power going to it and that the switch is getting proper vacuum. You could try jumping the switch with a pair of jumper wires..but use caution doing this..If you are not sure then do attempt to do it. I would not want you to hurt yourself or damage your oven. Let me know what you find so I can assist you further.

I am thinking it might be a problem with the ignition control module or just a problem with the vacuum switch for the covection fan. The oven control module might think the convection fan is not on and not turning on the burner as a safety feature. When you check it tommorow look in the back where the blower motor is and see if there is a vacuum line on the housing. You may need to remove the back panel to check this. I will check in the morning and see if you have replied..But I will be at work during the day. And re-check back in the afternoon. Let me know what you find.

There should be a wiring diagram located somewhere inside the unit(usually where the control panel is). Someone may have removed it. I checked the blodgett website and they have a downloadable pdf format of the instruction manual but says that the wiring diagram is loacted in the unit or with the manual(seperate sheet). I also thought you should check the door switch. There is a switch that shuts the oven off if the doors are open. It could also be that switch. I will check further and try to find a wiring diagram but it is difficult for this unit because it is a commercial oven.

The serial number is under the left side door behind the cover. Open the doors take out the two phillips head screws which go into the top of the lower cover, one on each end just inside the door hinge, the lower cover will remove to the front.

Igniter stays lit entire time oven is on Blodgett dfg 100-1

I have seen this happen when a hole develops near where the ignitor is mounted. The excess gass overheats the ignitor and burns it up. What I do in a case like that is slide a c clamp over the burner and cover the hole.

Gas smell at start up

Be sure that the igniter has a good ground. I mean make sure you clean it well. Be sure its fastened well. And of course that it is close enough to burner. Air flow in building can also hinder lighting.
