Question about IBM ThinkPad T30 2366 Notebook

1 Answer

I just picked up a IBM T30 laptop. I reformatted the hard drive and installed XPPRO. Everything works fine except the sound. I cannot get the sound to work. I have tried everything I could find. Any ideas?

I tried loading the combo driver, said computer was not compatable. Any more ideas? I also tried driver detective with no results.

Tried radar sync with the same result. I'm running a soundmax card with the proper driver. Any more ideas?

I have tried un-installing and re-installing soundmax to no avail. I tried looking in the system bios to see if something was disabled. I have not tried updating the bios. The previous owner has told me the sound did work.

Hello there:
when you reformatted your laptop any of the drivers that originally came with the computer were removed. if you have internet connection i would go to the website of the manufacture of the computer and download the drivers for the soundcard and also the (vinal ac 97 combo pac) works good for most of the computers.
Also if you have your upddates turned on the updates can also help recover the lost drivers. ok these are just a few ideas that may help get you going if you need more please let me know cause there is still more i can show you ok?
best regards michael

    Hello there:
i would have to tell you to download radar sync and use the free option and let me know how thios goes i can walk you through the scan and driver update process rember this is a totally free driver update utility that may be able to help you.
first get it downloaded and next select free version than after this select scan my system and have it begin to scan after it is done you can see all of the drivers that are in need of updating
nopw if you see your driver or a driver for the soundcard simply
look where it says more information and select it it will show you the version that you are using or supposed to be using and than it shows the new and updated version now simply select the history and you will see a list of operating systems select yours and select download. it will ask you if you want to create a restore point and that is totally up to you yes or no after this is selected click on download and it wil do the rest from here ok:
well i hope that this can help you get things done this time and once again if not let me know and i will keep helping you
    best regards michael

also if you used those driver magic or driver pro or any of the ones like these you should have been able to at least found out what kind of sound card you have and the manufacture of the card and go to the website of the card and try to get the driver from them ok
    best regards michael

Updating the BIOS firmware will not lose any data on your hard disk.
If the BIOS update is not installed properly or malfunctions then the T30 may stop working unless you can roll back the BIOS update.

How do I erase my hard drive on a IBM T30 and reload the operating system and drivers.

Get an install disk for the operating system you wish to install (Make sure your computer is able to handle that operating system first), then put the disk in and boot to the disk. If your computer is not set up to boot to disk first then you will have to go into the BIOS, usually F2 of F12 on boot (whatever says press to enter setup), then change the boot settings from there.

Once you are inside the installer for that Operating System, it will give you an option to erase the hard drive you are wanting to install the operating system on, and restart new. Just so you are aware, this will reformat and ERASE EVERYTHING on that hard drive, so make sure that you have anything you want saved backed up somewhere else.

Once that is done, continue installing the operating system and then your hard drive will be erased, and the operating system will be reinstalled.

If you were just looking to erase a hard drive, then you can go to my computer, then right-click the hard drive you want to erase, then click format. THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING!

Hope this helps!

T30 wont reformat

Sounds like you have a faulty hard drive. Can you see or detect the hard drive in the BIOS? To test the hard drive, remove it from the laptop and connect it to a USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer sees it as an external hard drive and you can open the various folders and files, then it os OK and the fault is in the laptop. If the hard drive is faulty, then you need to replace the hard drive in the laptop and install Windows to get the laptop working again.

IBM T30, turns on now and then

Look for bios update, and for that buton in your back laptop is for reseting the laptop at factory seting (default seting) . for that with hard disk problem , put the hard disck on a external hard drive reader and see if is still ok, or maybe the hard is full with data, For bios password  try to find aplication KILLCMOS  and reset the password.AND for Fumestsu Try to start your laptop without baterry in just with cable power.

PC will not reboot.

Either something has wiped out your operating system and you need to reformat the hard drive and reinstall it, or your hard drive went Since it worked fine the day before and just did this right away, my guess it that your hard drive went bad. But you can try both options though. Hope this helps.

Sounds like the virus did it's job in corrupting the operating system. You will need to reformat the hard drive and install a new operating system into the machine.
