You can try to order another installation disc from Toshiba...they will probably charge you like $30 bucks or so. Just make sure to ask them if a different hard drive being installed on the laptop will still be ok for the installation disc. Some oem operating systems will have a issue installing if there are any hardware changes to the computer. The oem OS is only supposed to install on the computer it came on and will think it is not the same computer if hardware is different. You could also pick up yourself a copy of windows and install that instead. If you do you will need to download the drivers for your laptop from Toshiba.

Should have the license number on the back of the machine. I think you can use almost any Windows CD to relaod Windows then use the code on the back of the computer to register it (pretty sure, but not positive). If you bought this new you might get in touch with the manufacturer for more info.

Your hard drive may have crashed or it's settings have changed so it is no longer recognized as a startup (boot) drive. Try starting from your original operating system CD. (or borrow one). Press the C button at power up to force your computer to start from the CD.
Once started, don't install the operating system. Go to the pull down menu's and select Disk Utility. If Disk Utility sees your hard drive, select it and run the repair disk program. If it doesn't see it, your hard drive has likely crashed. You will have to replace it, install a new copy of the operating system, and likely have lost all your data and documents. This is where I would start.

Before you use the Recovery CD you need to backup your data because to restoring your laptop will wipe your data off the hard disk.
To backup your data when you cannot boot up your laptop, remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter. Connect this hard drive/USB adapter into the USB port of a working computer. The computer will see it as an external storage device, you can then open the folders and backup your data.
You can then fit the hard drive back into the Dell laptop and boot up with the Dell recovery CD to reinstall Windows etc.

Laptop makes a pinging sound when opening and then crashes

your computer cannot boot from the hard drive or cannot read the drive.the drive may be corrupted so zero-fill it.and if you think that your hard disk is in healthy condition then you can try one by changing your battery and observing the screen by pluging the laptop to the wall socket and also unplugging.do you see any difference? if yes then problem with the battery(if seen that the laptop reboots after being plugged).to the best of my knowlege, the hard drive is corrupted.

if you have a new hard drive you will have to install the windows operating system from an external source such as a cd drive
go to bios --boot settings and change from 1st boot hard drive to 1st boot cd
install the win os and then you can install the rest
when finished go back to bios and -boot and change back to 1st boot hard drive

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop PC that crashed and will not boot up. What can I do?

You can try to re-build the operating system with the original disks.
You can get a new hard drive and reinstall the OS.
You can boot to Bart PE or other type of system disk to investigate the cause of the crash and try to repair it.

Hi

The ISO files need to be burned into a cd with a special program. Please use this software. http://www.ntfs.com/iso-burning.htm

Next, the reason why you are getting the error message is because the computer is not starting from the cd, or the cd was burned incorrectly.

The computer is most likely starting from the hard drive instead and since it's formatted you get the error message.

To get the computer to start from the cd instead and to install the system again, you need to adjust the boot order.

The laptop might have a Boot menu feature (look at the screen right when you power it on and see if it says anywhere press xx key to enter Boot menu) If you don't have the boot menu option then you need to enter setup or bios, same thing different name.

The computer will say at some part of the screen to press xx button to enter setup or bios / cmos.

In Bios you must adjust the boot order so that the Cd / dvd drive is before the hard drive in the order. this way the computer will start from the cd instead of trying the hard drive.

Here are a few good tutorial videos on the subject of changing the boot order.

Let me know if the problem is not solved or if you need further assistance.

Thank you,
