If it is wireless mic, then either low battery, interference from other devices, or damaged element in the mic.

If it is wired, then damaged element or more likely a bad cable is at fault.

Also if you are using a noise gate and the threshold is set too high would do it.

You don't mention what type mic. I will say that most mics do NOT bounce very well and elements are often broken.

Repair lavalier microphone

Lavalier microphone usually breaks by the cable, near the clip, 'cause talents mess with it during shots. here you will understand how to fix it.

Don't know what is the brand of this mic, but if have one that is similar, quite shure it will be fixed in the same way.

Detach mic from body pack or by phantom power injector.
write_tip-jzzyfeyvjm4ftyhthvyxbacz-3-0.jpgCry for the mess your collegues make with mic cables ...

Detect the problem ... in this case is clear u have to cut a piece of cable and resolder the capsule

with two pliers, gently twist the two pieces of the capsule to unscew it.

Now you have access to the mic PCB, solder points etc.
write_tip-jzzyfeyvjm4ftyhthvyxbacz-3-6.jpgWhen you will cut the damaged part of the cable remember to re-set screen and vibration pad in the same order like it's now (use that hoto as reference).

Take note of where shield and signal are soldered (mic do not work if reverse biased or works very bad ... and could be damaged)write_tip-jzzyfeyvjm4ftyhthvyxbacz-3-10.jpg

Desolder the cable and cut the damaged part.

Strip the cable tip (and recycle the plastic cover to insulate ground shield.
Pre-solder signal and shield tips.
write_tip-jzzyfeyvjm4ftyhthvyxbacz-3-21.jpgSet on the cable bumper and screen NOW (if you removed them) :D

Carefull position cable in correct position (remember the polarity you noted before).
pre-soldered tips touching the right pcb position.
Gently position soldering iron on the tips. Soldering on both sides (cable tip and pcb) will fuse and make the electric contacts.

It's time to re-assemble the whole thing.
Make a knot on the cable or use a cable tie to add mechanical strenght to the cable :D

Now your mic is (quite) new. Connect body pack or the phontom power injector and check it on your equipment.

Happy fixing :D

Creates excessive noise with no signal

Could you swap with a different mic so you could be sure if the line/cable are allright or confirm that the mic is defective... Also when repairing a mic, 90% of problems come from the connector welds. Use a small flat glasses screwdriver and have a look at the weld of the xlr connector from the inside...

Motorola DCH3200 cable box: sound and sometimes video cutting out

Sounds like your SNR is getting too high and causing the signal to overload. A few things can cause this a bad splitter that causes the signal to bleed and introduces noise, or a more common issue is having a weak signal coming from the cable provider and once it goes through a splitter it causes the signal to become to weak to be stable.

Since it sounds like your cable has been working up until recently, you may have had a cable or splitter go bad.

Call comcast and have a technician come out and test the line.

Feedback issues during live band performances

This is clearly a microphone problem. You need to review your mics and use a suitable type. Ensure the speakers are not aimed at the mics too.

All four hand held systems failed during a performance

Hi kb

That is an odd encounter, and most probably one of the R.F.I. kind. Radio Frequency Inference can be caused by many things. Sometimes it can be a nearby piece of equipment creating that much interference, that the mics could not operate. It may have been a spurious mobile radio transmitter as used with two way radio for the cops, ambo's, firies,or even a nearby Cab!! Some times faulty light dimmers can also spray RF.
To what ever end, the fact that 4 mics went down together is indicative of an external problem, and being radio mics, it would have been radio interference.
The only other thing to check is that they are UHF. there are many VHF mic systems still about, but these frequencies are now being used as part of the soon to be introduced digital TV transmission. Best check that they are UHF, The VHF type have actually been illegal for a number of years Hope this info has helped you understand your problem. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Cheers
