Have you checked fuel and fuel tank pressure lines? fuel filter? (usually located in tank), Have you checked if the ignition coil is functioning? checked the "kill switch"? all these must be checked.

If it sputtered as it died It is a fuel mixture or dirty carburetor.

If it was at speed and suddenly went dead it is a defective ignition module or associated wiring.

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You don’t have to bend up the electrode. HTH

Was using saw ran fine stopped and returned next day will not start fuel fine new plug filterers gas and air still wont start took to local chain saw repair shop they said that because it had water in gas...

check the carburetor. If you have a stiff diaphragm then it won't run.
I have seen them that behave just like that. They will run fine, turn it off for a few minutes then they won't restart. WD40 isn't going to get it to run either, try a small amount of mixed gas right into the carb. It should run for a minute until the gas you put in runs out then die. If it doesn't run then you have a bigger problem

50to 60 compression on a husqavarna 455 rancher chain saw. Ring job and how hard?

455 is an X Torq engine, this means it runs very cool on the inlet side of the piston, they are quite prone to gumming the ring in if they have been used on a heavy two stroke mix, due to the designit is a full machine strip down to get to the piston, skilled man 3 hours to strip and rebuild.

I have the 455 rancher and when I start the saw I pump the bulb 6-8 times and the saw will not run right. It sounds as though it is running out of gas. It bogs down when I pull the trigger. The saw is 2...

Before you do anything else i think you need to check the engine is mechanically sound, remove the muffler, take a look at the piston skirt through the open port, any signs of scuffing on the piston and it will require removing the cylinder to assess the damage, they are x torq engines, due to the way the air ports work they are quite prone to carboning in the piston rings, make sure it has plenty of compression.

The saw s primer bubble split ...i replaced the primer and it ran fine..then just quit... i changed the gas and checked the plug for fire .its ok..........but it will not fire ????

I would see if you have a air pocket in your gas lines.Try removing plug and pumping primer bulb until you know engine is flooded. Then let dry out before you put plug back and try to start. Thank you.

My 455 rancher bogs down when i give it gas it's not even under a load new plug air filter, fuel filter, made carb adjustments like manual said running 93 octane gas.it,s still bogging

Make sure the chain break is releasing all the way. When the saw is not running release the chain break and make sure you can move the chain back and forth by hand. If you can there is a small fuel filter in the gas tank that should be replaced. Make sure the fuel lines are not spongy because they could collasp when the engine is running starving the carburetor for fuel.

455 wont run

Make sure the muffler has not become plugged. Check the flywheel key as it may have sheared off for some reason causing the timing to be off, yet still generate sparks. Are the sparks blue and snappy? If not, check the ignition module gap to the flywheel magnets--use a thin business card for a gauge. A wide gap can cause weak spark. Hope this gets you running again!

Saw was running and quit checked gas and oil both are full

Check to see if you are getting spark. If you are getting spark then it is not getting fuel. Try sparying starter fliud in the carb. If is starts then stops. Take the fuel line off to see if something is obstructing the line. Also the fuel filter can be changed.
If you are not getting spark with the spark plu relace the plug. Also to check the spark, remove the plug and put a screw driver in the plug wire and ground the screwdriver. a spark should come off the screwdriver

Poulan 18' model 2000 chain saw, quit running , will not start.

If you have a compression gauge, check the compression. Anything under 90psi is too low.

Check your flywheel key. If it is broken the flywheel will move and not fire at the correct time.

Note: if it does not sputter with carb cleaner then it's not your carb.

Next:
Remove your exhaust manifold. Look into the cylinder with a flash light. You are looking for scratches. Anything larger then a light fingernail is definite proof you need a new cylinder/piston assy.

If it passes that test do the following:

Pour mixed fuel straight into your cylinder until 1/4 full. Slowly pull your saw over while looking into the cylinder. If you see bubbles after the ring/rings go by then you need a new cylinder/piston assy. On rare occasions if no scratches are present on the cylinder wall or piston, you may be able to change just the rings.

I am only taking a educated guess at this but I believe that you have a carburetor or reed valve problem and unless you are experienced at this type of work I can only suggest that you take your saw to a trained technician
