Top oven bake igniter comes on, but gas does not.

Top oven bake igniter comes on fine, but the gas does not come on anymore. At first oven was working, but we would smell gas after a few minutes, and we would shut oven off, wait 2 minutes, then turn back on. Now gas will not even turn on. Broiler works fine. Bottom oven works fine.

If the bake ignitor comes on (starts glowing) - check the amperage on the bake ignitor wires when it's on. If the ignitor is a round style - amperage should be 2.5-3A, if the ignitor is rectangular - 3 - 3.6A. If less than 2.5A or 3A respectively - replace ignitor. If the ignitor does not come on - check the voltage on the ignitor, should be the line voltage 110-120v AC. Faulty gas valve is uncommon, but still a small possibility. Ignitor part numbers for round style ones: 4342528, WB2X9154, SGR403, 5304401265;
rectangular styles: 12400035, WB13K21, WB2X9998, SGR412, NR020, 5303935066, 814269, 9753108.
Ignitors of the same shape (i.e. rectangular) are interchangeable, if you can splice the wires.

Good luck!

Check the voltage on the 2 wires going to the oven gas valve. If you get 120v when the ignitor is on with no gas coming out, you have a bad gas valve. If you get voltage, but it is not much, it is the ignitor. The ignitors don't burn out completely on the ovens, they just get a little dim and no longer ignite the gas and eventually will not turn on the gas valve

Magic chef oven with uniburners oven will not light. igniter gets red hot but seems like no gas coming at all. burners on top work fine.

Hello,

Since the bake burner does glow yet no flame that means that the igniter is weak and should replaced...the way the igniter works is that it comes on and get very hot where upon getting hot it draws a certain amount of amperage which will allow the gas valve to open resulting in a flame. The igniter is indeed coming on yet its not getting hot enough to draw the proper amp drqaw to open the gas valve...by replacing it with a new fresh igniter it will draw the correct amprage and let the gas flow.

Stove top burners work but when the oven is turned on it looks like the pilot light will glow but will not ignite the oven

Hello,

The problem beleive it or not is that the bake igniter is weak ,and it is not drawing the proper amprage to open the gas valve. If you have a amp meter access the wires to the bake igniter(usually behind the storage drawer) and check for 3.3-3.6 amps when oven is set to bake by clamping the meter around ONE wire wire of igniter make sure only one wire, either one and not both.
if amp draw less than 3.3-3.6 amps replace bake igniter. I know it seems improbable that if the igniter comes on that it could be the problem.Professional appliance technicians who would charge a average of $250.00 to repair your oven, have found when the igniter comes on yet the oven won't heat that a weak igniter is the cause 100% of the time

My oven is not heating up properly, it either doesn't heat up or it takes a very long time to heat up. The range top works fine and the broiler works, but when i set it to bake it doesn't or takes long.

There are two possibilities for problems with the range. If it has a "timed bake" setting for the oven then it's possible that the last person who used it neglected to return the setting to the manual mode. In "timed bake" mode, the oven will heat to approx. 160 - 185 degrees, what is called a "keep warm" temp. It will maintain that heat setting regardless of what you set the oven temp control to, as long as you're not in the time frame that it's set to bake. This will make trying to bake anything a very difficult procedure.
The second possibility is that the oven glo coil igniter is cracked and will not heat to the proper temp to allow the electricity to flow through it to the oven gas safety valve to allow it to open and let the gas flow to the burner. These things are ceramic and for some reason crack in normal use. If it has a top broiler, that unit is obviously good. Unfortunately, the igniters are seldom interchangeable. You would need a tech to check the igniter with an ohmmeter.

I have kenmore gas oven ignitor glows but will not light

Hello there:
It doesn't bake dot_lineone.gif Bake igniter
When the bake igniter becomes weak or burns out, your oven would not bake. The bake igniter is usually mounted on the oven burner. It's about 1 inch by 4-8 inches (depending on the model), and comes in round or flat styles. If you don't see the igniter glow at all, it's probably burned out. Replace the igniter if found defective. Note: one of the exceptions could be that your oven is set to automatic mode instead of manual. If this is the case, set your oven to manual mode and check again.

If the bake igniter glows red and not bright yellow or white, it is probably because it is too weak. When this happens, the safety valve would not let the gas out into the oven burner. A weak igniter must be replaced.

A faulty igniter is probably the most common cause, however there are others:

-- defective thermostat
-- defective selector switch
-- defective gas safety valve

If you are certain the igniter is ok, it might be a good idea to call a professional appliance technician.

You will need a new igniter module. The igniter module is told to spark by the control panel. There is also a flame detection for electronic start and that could be bad too.

Whirlpool 465. The top range burners will not ignite. I can hear and smell the gas. The oven burner works fine. Do I need to replace an ignitor for the range?

The bake is seperate from the burner ignition system. You may need a new spark module for the top burners. All burners should spark at the same time even if you are only trying to lite one burner.
