Plug your camera into your computer with the USB cable that came with it, and make sure your SanDisk Card(SD Card) is inserted in your camera. On your computer, go to "My Computer" and double click your camera icon, now right click "Removable Storage" or something along those lines and click "Format," then "OK."

If you have an SD Card slot in your computer then just insert your SD Card(SanDisk Card) into it. Open "My Computer" and right click your Card, now click "Format," then "OK."

Hope this helps!

After locking memory card, do I then unlock it to take pictures and will that then erase the memory card or can you tell me how to so

Locking the memory card prevents you from taking and adding photos to the memory card. It also prevents you from deleting photos from the memory card.
If you want to erase all the photos off the memory card. unlock the memory card, go to the camera's Menu and scroll through the settings ti Format the memory card, then format the memory card.

SD card format ng no card

  • 1 Insert your SanDisk 8GB memory card into a card reader connected to your computer.
  • 2 Double-click "Macintosh HD" on your desktop.
  • 3 Click on the "Applications" folder, then the "Utilities" folder.
4 Double-click "Disk Utility". Look on the left side to locate the drive that says "SanDisk.
5 Select the capacity of the drive on the left side of the window. The capacity will state "8GB" or "8,388,608 kilobytes." Click on the "Erase" tab to format the memory card. When you see "SanDisk" listed as the device's name, the capacity will be located above. You need to select the capacity and not the device.
6 Select the appropriate "Volume Format." Under the "Volume Format" button, select the format you wish to use. Select "Mac OS Extended" if the SanDisk 8GB will only be used on Macs, or "MS-DOS (FAT)" if you will share the card between a Mac and PC. Select "Erase" to complete the format of your SanDisk 8GB memory card.

Try formatting (not erasing) the card in your camera to rejuvenate it. Press "menu" button, then select the tools menu. Then scroll down to the selection stating your card's capacity and select it. Select "Low Level" format if offered. This will also totally erase your card, so do this after saving any important images to your computer.

Memory card error - how to format?

plug the memory card into a PC. When it shows up in 'My Computer' as a drive; right click and select 'Format' from the tools tab. If it fails to format here, it is most likely that the card is irrepareably damaged.
PLEASE NOTE: Formating will erase all photo's, etc from the card. If you need to salvage photo's from the card, Take it to a local camera/photo shop that has a service to recover lost/erased photos from memory cards.

No they should still be there, but you're going to need recovery software, and an external card reader to recover them. Take no more pics or videos until you've recovered the photos, and take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for.
You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don't have one, get one, they're extremely inexpensive these days, and they actually are a better way to download your photos than directly from the camera.

The reason this occurred is that you likely never formatted the card. The card will work fine in the beginning but eventually will corrupt. AFTER you've recovered the photos, format the card in your camera to prevent this from happening again (dig out that instruction manual to figure out how). Keep in mind formatting will also totally erase your card, so again only do this after you've recovered the photos.
