Question about Dell OptiPlex GX270 PC Desktop

1 Answer

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270 Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.66Ghz, and I recently got the post virus or whatever it's called and now I need to update my BIOS to fix it. But I need to know the default factory BIOS version. Anybody know? P.S. Also the start-up boot menu was displaying musical notes instead of words, if that matters.

You need to go to the following site:
support.dell.com
Here you can enter the service tag or the system model and get your system information (probably includes the bios ver.) and the update you need.

How to desible dell frimware bios update

go into your Dell Maintenance program, or whatever it is called in the All Programs list under Dell. If it has updates listed then turn off or change setting so that updates are either not done or require your approval/management. Else, if your model does it thru Windows Update, do not do it! Hope that helps.

DELL OPTIPLEX GX150 Upgrade to Intel Pentium 4

Upgrading to a PIII to a PIV usually requires a new motherboard. Especially with that kind of speed you want to go to. The processor uses a different socket set and requires a different motherboard to absorb twice as much heat as you are putting out of the computer right now (the faster the processor, the more heat is released). Power supply should be around 400 watts as well because you will be needing a different cooling system as well.
