A commom wire comes from the top of the contacter , attactch this wire to two prong cap, then attatch what is usually a brown wire to the other side of the cap , find coommon wire from fan motor and attatch it to the same side you attatched the common from the contacter ,caps are not polarity sensitive just make sure brown fan wire is opposite common

We replaced fan motor on heil heat pump , now the defrost isn't kicking in, is this a wiring problem or unrelated to us replacing the fan motor?

Check low voltage at heatpump need 24voltsat R and C tterminal s if you have 24 volts on defrost board change board .if you dont have 24volts from r and c you have to go to indoor unit and look at low voltage wireing . Check wire nuts or when replace ing motor might have knock some loose check all low voltage. Hope this helps

Outside fan runs slow on my janitrol heatpump

If it has service ports on each side of the motor you need to add Zoomspout oil to the cotton wells.0942d92.jpg Check the capacitor if you have a seperate cap for the fan motor. Look for swelling that is a sure sign of cap failure.c51cc2e.jpgKill power at the outside unit before checking anything. 2550ebd.gif

Heil outside fan motor 3 wire rd/blk/br new dayton motor 4 wire blk /br /purpule /brown with white strip Need help on wiring

Hi, the new motor takes its own capacitor to run it. This is what the 2- brown wires are for, one will have a white stripe. You will need to but a seperate run capacitor for this motor, a 5 uf, 7.5, or what ever it calls for. they should have told you when you bought the motor. It will have to spade connectors on it where the brown wires connect alone. Use the dual capacitor if that is what you have for the other 220 volt wires.Black and purple will be your 2 hot wires. You can connect either one to the old capacitor on the fan terminal and the other to the load side of the contactor, so when the contactor closes it will energize the motor.Or, take both the black and the purple wires and to the load side ( outlet side ) of the contactor, connect one to one side and the other to the other side. The line side is where your 2 hot wires that connect to the contactor from the incoming wires from the electrical box, you want to be on the other end. I would connect the black to the contactor load side and purple to the old capacitor as long as the old wiring is still on it as it has to be fed by a hot wire from the contactor. Each wire, blk, and purple has to have 120 volts to each one and you can get this a couple of ways. The contactor has several terminals that are not used and if you wire them on the outlet side, they will only be energized when the contactor is closed on a call from the stat, very easy to do. You will have to get a coulple of crimp on connectors to put on the ends of the wires, but the brown ones should already have them for this capacitor. Do not try to put the brown wires on the old run capacitor as you will burn out the new motor! Go get the small run cap for these 2 wires for about $10. I know that you can do this wiring change just remember the blk is hot 120, and purple is hot 120, = 240.volts. If you have removed all of the wires from the old capacitor, then use the contactor to connect to. The compressor wires must stay on the old run cap on the hermetic side and this old cap. must be fed by a hot wire from the contactor to the common terminal, that is marked with a C..If you look at the new motor diagram, it will show you also. Please dont forget to rate me as I know you will be kind, and I will check in on you to see how you are doing. Get this capacitor and it will run. This is a must!! Please keep me posted.

I have a heil heating and cooling unit. The fan is not working but it is still heating ,just not like it did.

Try turning your thermostat from fan auto to fan manual, if the blower starts then you have a burned out speed on the heat leg.

If this is true, shut power off to furnace and try and trace out the blower motor wires. Usually they will
gto to a terminal block that is marked heat/cool.
Just reverse the connections

If the weather outside is cold and you are running the heatpump/aircondition. Is the fan motor on the outside suppose to stop running. I notice the there is heat coming from the unit after it as been...

yes the fan will shut down during the defrost cycle. But the fan only shuts down during this cycle....other than defrost the outdoor fan motor should be running during a call for heat.

Heil airconditioner is not cooling? Heater works

If no blowing air is coming out to your ac or evaporator fin, your blowing fan is not working. There are several factor to check qualified electrician or ac techician should do this.If you have knowledge on electricity and motor control, beside you should have clamp ammeter to use in trouble shooting of ac electrical circuit.Unplug your ac If there is an opening of blower fan of your ac mostly the top cover open this one locate the wire connection of blowing fan take the color and size.Open the terminal box below the control panel of ac and locate the wire of blowing fan.Check how many leads make sure to make sketch where it was connected from low, medium, and high there is coded color on it,discannect from the terminal, using clamp ammeter set to ohms probe setting R10 check continuinity of winding motor start at common lines(mostly balck color) of one test rod and the other to starting line(mostly red color)take and read the resistance if has a higher resistance your motor is burn out, also with the running line w/c has multple line for speed. If resistance complied to your motor rating or good,If not or burn out replace fun motor.Check your capacitor, doing this set your ohmeter to a higher resistance, connect one red test rod (+) one terminal of capacitor and one black test rod on (-)the other terminal the pointer will deflect steady to higher resistance then reverse the connection of the test rod,the pointer deflect again to higest resistance it will go slow backward setting to zero if you got this result your capacitor is good. But if it does not go set back to zero your capacitor is short.Replaced capaciter.
