Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

When I plug in my Hard Drive to my laptop it doesn't seem to register with the computer properly. I went to device manager and the lacie hard drive was there but it said code 10: cannot start. I tried turning everything off and on, unplugging and replugging in etc.. but none of that worked.

Hi,

Code 10 mens the drive cannot start the device for some reason. If you have tried the usual suspects, new USB cable and a different computer, now it's time for more drastic measures.

Take the drive to your local PC shop and have the techs extract the actual HDD insode and put it in a new enclosure. If it works your done, buy the new enclosure and be on your way. If not, reply back with your location and I will refer you to a pro for data recovery, be sure to include Country, State and City so I can refer you to a nearby facility.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

shouldn't need a driver if you got windows xp or higher. it should automatically install as a USB storage device.
is this new? if so you will need to format the hard drive if its not formatted already.
you can also check manager and go to storage device and see if the volume is getting a proper device letter.
do this by right clicking on my computer and choose manage. go to storage device and look for the hard drive. right click on it assign drive letter.

My Lacie hard drive is not working

It Seems to me like when you unpluged it without properly ejecting it, that it partly corrupted the part of the ext. hard drive that is recignised by the pc to then recignise it and make it ready for you to use.

If it uses a power adpter to power it plug that in first, then plug it into you computer, and see if that works.
I hope I helped.

Can't access my lacie external hard drive

I would first plug it in to a different PC, this will tell you if the problem is the Lacie or Windows Vista.
if it works on a different PC then remove it from Device manager or go to the Lacie website for Vista updates.

If it does not work on a different PC then there are 3 possibilities
1. the drive got cleared data lost
2. the enclosure is bad (I would bet on this)
3. the drive is bad

purchase a USB enclosure, remove the drive and install it in the new enclosure plug in and test.

Hope this helps

Drive Shredded

Open Administrative tools, Computer management applet; under storage, disk management. You will probably need to partition and reformat. If this drive is used only on XP machines, then format NTFS, otherwise FAT32.

Hubs don't work on LaCie minin 250 GB Hard Drive

there is not enough power coming through ports each device re-quires 1-5 volts to run and if your mac has not got enough power to boot all devices then sadly all things pluged into will not reconise and with mac the os is not properly designed for it now if you got yourself an external usb 2.0 hub powered then yes all devices will be seen in mac windows firewire is unsafe at moment for this to happen ask them what system they had had configuration on. hope this has helped

Drive not recognised

Try re-mounting your drive after a fresh re-boot of your computer. If the drive came with the manufacture's software to allow it to communicate with your computer, then try removing this software from your system and re-installing it again. This will repair a corrupt driver or I/O program. Try using the drive with a new or different firewire cable. Other users have reported this drive working again after replacing the cable.
