The software on my sansa e260r is completely gone, when i start it up it reads" load main image failed, switch to recovery mode

Hello,

Firmware on the player can be reinstalled in 2 METHODS.
In both methods the player should be in USB connection mode MSC = recovery mode.
How to switch the player into MSC mode:
0. Player not connected to a computer.
1. When the e260R is not OFF, on the player press and hold the
Power/Menu button for 15 seconds to turn the device completely off.
2. Slide the Hold switch, so the orange portion shows.
3. On your PC, double-click My Computer
4. On your Sansa player, press and hold the REC button while connecting it to the PC.
5. Release the REC button when a 16MB-FORMAT drive partition appears under My Computer.

On a computer running Windows, you can use the Sansa Firmware Updater to get an automatic download of the firmware for the e260R.
How to use the Sansa Firmware Updater [METHOD 1]:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/306
If not installed yet, get the Sansa Firmware Updater to download:
http://mp3support.sandisk.com/sansa/Application/SansaUpdaterInstall.exe
Right click the link above and Save target as... ; save the Installer to a location on your computer, install and run the updater on your computer. Select Firmware in the updater and Download Now, to start downloading the software for the player.

When you prefer to download manually or if you have another operating system, the firmware can be downloaded from the forums site [METHOD 2]:

Sansa e260R 4.0GB mp3 player

Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx

Firmware updates... MSC vs MTS

Yep - doesn't exist on this player. Try this instead:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.

Hi. Seems like it's time to update your player's firmware. Mine got dislexic too and this is what I was told to do by the Sandisk tech support guys: If you have the E200 "Rhapsody" player (like E260R for example), use this link from the SanDisk website to update your Firmware: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1449 If you have the "Standard" E200 player, use this link: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1376 It fixed mine. I'm hopin it'll fix yours as well. :)
