What is anti-lock braking system on cars?

Anti-Lock Brake systems are all essentially the same they will prevent the driver form applying 100% Brake pressure and locking up the wheels while driving. The ratchet the pressure more slowly to prevent the car from skidding. Our first reaction in an emergency is to slam on the brakes and that is 90% of the time not the right action. So Anti-Lock brakes are designed to prevent this unwanted skid.

I have a 1999 dodge caravan that as your driving the rpm r high but the brakes seem like they r locking up , could this b the anti lock brake sensor goin bad ?

Check your emergency brake. It's easy to apply it accidentally on this model. I hope you haven't burnt it up already!

Drive safely!

What means ABS

ABS means anti lock braking system and if you have a light on for it, then maybe one of the wheel speed sensors is bad or not sending information to the abs brake module.

The Service traction system, abs and anti lock warning lights keep coming on. I just had 2 oxygen sensors and a wheel hub unit put in. What could be causing this problem?

When the wheel hub was put back in did they omit to connect the wheel speed sensor? The ECU continuously monitors with sensors the speed of the wheel rotation and compares this with the transmission speed. Any disagreement due to wheel spin results in power redistribution to those wheels with traction. If all drive wheels spin and get out of sync with the transmission then the ECU limits the power output from the engine until traction is resumed. Likewise when braking a locked wheel has the brake pressure reduced until minor rotation is again resumed. A missing wheel sensor will cause a failure of both the traction control and the anti-lock braking system

Sounds like a faulty wheel sensor. I would suggest a trip to the repair shop.
