Question about Heating & Cooling

Radiant Flame Heater by DESA International pilot light will not stay lit. The manual is not available. Could this be a thermocouple? If so, how do I change it. The flame in the "logs" will light manually, but once it comes up to temperature, the pilot light goes out.

You need to replace the pilot light. This is an easy replacement, it goes from your gas control valve to its place in the heater. You can try "taping" the dust out or pulling it out and blowing it clear. This will fix your pilot light problem.

Wall mounted 3 grate gas space heater: VIN # 41201. ser. # 1410915. Piolet light won't remain lit to be able to light grates. Also need control knob (if avail) for same model.

your pilot has dust in it. Use a drinking straw and blow air across (not into) the pilot opening. this will remove the small particles of dust that are stopping up the membrane inside the opening. THis will make your pilot flame bluer and hotter and keep the thermocouple hot enought to produce enought magnetism to hold the gas valve open.

Make sure the pilot light flame is bathing the thermocouple; not too close, not out of the flame. If it seems in the right part of the pilot light flame, then the thermocouple may be failing; they only produce a few thousandths of a volt and it may be defective now. The thermocouple will look like a tube with a closed end and a thin tubing attached to it going to the regulator.

It won't stay lit. It has worked fine for two months. Most of the time I can get it to stay lit, but occasionally it keeps shutting off.

make sure the thermocouple, that metal rod looking thing above the pilot light, remains in the tip of the flame, if it doesn't get hot enough it's job is to shut off the gas.
Also check to see if there are Co2 sensors, they may need to be reset if you have them...

Desa unvented propane log heater pilot will not stay lit

check to make sure that the end of the thermocouple is in the flame. This is the hot junction of the thermocouple and it the difference in temp that create the millivolts to operate the gas valve. If it is in the flame, replace it and if a new thermocouple doesnt fix it, you need a new gas valve

Glo-Warm Model #WMN20 20,000btu. Can hold down and ignite the pilot but as soon as i let go the pilot goes out and with out igniting the unit.

WITH THE HEATER OFF, clean the pilot flame unit with a can of compressed air. Blow directly into flame hole then try it again. if it continues to "not" stay lit then you need a new thermocouple.

the heater makes use of a millivolt generator which generates a small dc voltage (500-750mv) that is applied to the pilot valve of your main gas valve. when you light your pilot, the flame bathes the generator with a flame. after a delay you release the pilot button. if the generator is working, the pilot valve will stay lit. if the generator is not working the flame will go out as soon as you release the pilot button. change the generator.

The pilot light will not stay lit after I let the button go to turn on the heater.

you most likely have to replance the thermocouple, its a safly feature that tells the gas valve that there is a flame present, if its not working its telling the gas valve that the pilot is not on and not to turn on the gas. If you look at your pilot light its a small metal rod that sticks into the flame, it should trace back and go directly into the gas valve.
