You cannot install this adapter in a Win 7 computer because the drivers are not compatible with Win 7.
So far Belkin haven't updated the drivers for win 7 OS. The latest drivers for this adapter is compatible only with

" Windows 98SE, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP 32-bit, Windows Vista 32-bit "

Click here to see the belkin compatible drivers in the website.

Connect ethernet without a network card

Actually what you need is a USB ethernet adapter. Then you connect a standard ethernet cable to the USB dongle and to the router or DSL or cable modem. has both 10/100 and gigabit ethernet devices of this type. Since USB 2.0 is limited to 480Mbs, stick with the 10/100 type. Other stores will also have these devices; just read the specs to check that Win2K is supported.

The Belkin in that list has Win2K support in the specs. In some cases, these work better when directly plugged into the computer, not a hub.

I hope this helps.

Reinstalled Windows XP no ethernet card

It seems that after re-installing windows you have missed the Driver installation for your hardware. If you have a disk (which reads Drivers and Utilities) that came with your computer, You can insert it in your CD Driver and select the Driver for Network adapter. If you do not have a disc, you can always visit the Dell's support site and Get the drivers suitable for your hardware by selecting the model or Entering the Service Tag of your Dell computer.

For your convenience I am providing below the link for Drivers for Dimension 4700 Desktop PC as you have mentioned.

Dell 4700 Computer Integrated NIC Problem

Check for the pins inside the integrated NIC to check if the pins are bent / disfigured. Does not look like the additional card is making any different, looks more like a moving NIC cable is makin the difference.

Lemme know if this helped!
