The dryer belt is one of the easiest jobs there is in appliance jobs. I will give you a youtube link for a quick video to watch that will give you the basics. Your machine will be a bit different, but the basics are there to show you how to open up the machine and change the belt. The belt itself is cheap too.

I have a broken broken belt but can't get replacement around tension pulley. Kenmore Dryer, Mod: 110 62612100, Ser ML 2202910, Type: DWRJR-ELE-2406028-FM54 Thank you

Make sure you have the correct replacement belt first. If you still have the old broken belt, measure it with a tape measure and do the same with the replacement. The new belt may be slightly shorter because the old one will have been stretched with use. Also check the part numbers again, but Kenmore changes numbers sometimes so that isn't always reliable.

The tensioners can be a little tricky sometimes. You can loosen it up if need be, then install the belt, hold the tensioner in place and tighten it back up. During re-installation, try to keep the belt as straight as possible around the drum so it doesn't take up more space, making it more difficult to install on the tensioner..

Whirlpool gas dryer won't spin and there is a deep humming sound with an electrical odor

Sounds like the drive belt has broken and is rubbing against the motor pulley, which causes the smell.
You can order a new one online, or from Sears. Replacement is a matter of gaining access to the inside of the dryer, remove the old belt, and figuring out how to get the new belt around the drum and motor pulley.

Diagram with replacement belt doesn't seem to match old manual

I haven't worked on a belt drive but here is the Sears parts site for your washer with diagrams of the console, drive system etc. You may get a better idea of how to replace the belt from these.

Here also is the Whirlpool / Amana installation and maintenance document for Amana belt drive washers. It may look similar to yours.

The other thing I'd check is Whirlpools list of documentation for their laundry products. Check some of the washers that they make for one that looks like yours and you should get a better idea.

The belt drive of my optimus turntable is broken. What you suggest, buy a new belt or repair it ?

Just buy a new one. If it broke it did so for a reason: it's old and worn out, probably cracking and weakening as well. If you try to reuse the old one it may not play right (slipping, etc.)

You can get replacements at Radio Shack or at stereo stores, or even online. Not that expensive.

Stopped tumbling

First make sure your belt is broken.
Take a putty knife or a old CD and insert it between the top and the front panel about 2 inches in from the sides where the top and front come together.
Push the clips towards the back of the machine while pulling up on the top.
Once it is open you can tell if the belt is broken or not.
It you see no belt around the drum it is broken.
If you see a belt around the drum pull on it carefully.
If it does not come loose it is not broken.
After you do this, let me know the result.
We will then move on to step #2.

My hotpoint vtd20 dryer is vibrating when running. When stopped, with my hand i can barely turn the drum (not sure if it turned easily before) any advice?

hi Step 1: Locate the belt by removing the back or front service panel. Depending on the type of dryer you own, you may have to prop up the drum to keep it from sagging. Don't let the drum hang; the bolts that hold it in the cabinet could be damaged. Don't remove any more parts than necessary.
Step 2: Identify the belt. The old belt may be threaded around the idler pulley and motor drive shaft. Draw a diagram showing how the pulley is installed so you'll be able to replace it properly. If the old belt is worn or frayed, but not broken, leave it around the drum as a pattern for positioning the new belt; cut the old belt and remove it when the new belt is in position.
Step 3: Remove the old belt from the pulleys and stretch the replacement belt into place. The new belt must extend around the dryer drum and the pulleys. The trick is to align the belt on the drum with the pulleys -- the ribs on the new belt go against the drum.
Step 4: Once the belt is aligned, turn the drum by hand, if possible, to make sure the belt is tracking. You may have to reassemble part of the cabinet to do this.

Some older dryers have a V-belt pulley drum drive. With this system, two or three pulleys of different sizes set the speed of the drum. To change this type of belt, decrease the tension on the idler pulley and install the new belt in the V-grooves of all pulleys. Then place the idler pulley back into position.
With any dryer, make absolutely sure that you replace the old belt with a new one made especially for the dryer. Any difference in belts can change the speed of the drum and cause problems with other dryer components.

Whirpool electric dryer: heat turns on but no rotation

Your problem could be as simple as a broken drive belt.. or an overtemp switch.... If you've never replaced the drive belt.. then that is in all probability your problem.. If you reach inside the dryer drum and try to rotate it.. does it offer any resistance like it is turning a motor pulley system or is it free to rotate with very little resistance ( would suggest the belt broke).. If the cost to repair exceeds the cost to replace then you'd be better off replacing.. However ..if it is just a drive belt.. then I would just replace that.. Hope that helps...
