These photos might help but I haven't tried it yet

My guess is its the docking connector - try pulling the ipod forward a a bit and see if that helps produce any sound. Look on these other threads for other discussions about that.

Ok, I had an Altec Lansing, I kinda had the same problem., now don't try opening it, i doesn't work anyways. Check if you put in the right electrical cable, en control the settings of your IPod. If the problem still isn't resolved, call Altec Lansing!
Grtz!

I need help connecting to itunes because my ipod was disabled and i dont remember my password

ipod touch ? if thats the case you have to plug it into your computer using the usb cable.. open itunes and click restore ( it is then up to you if you want to add a password after itunes is finished. ) if itunes dose not detect the ipod or you are having trouble restoring it then make sure you have the most resent itunes installed then hold down the home button and power button at the exact same time and keep holding them. you will hear a ding sound and ipod will turn off, keep holding the home button but leave go of the power button when you hear the ding sound.now keep holding the home button untill you hear another ding sound ( this is the ipod powering back up but screen will be blank ) you can now leave go of the home button ( screen will be blank ) but itunes will see the ipod and say "ipod detected in dfu mode, you must restore " click restore ( if you leave go of the home button before the ding sound you will see the apple logo...if you see the apple logo you have missed the chance to get into dfu mode so do the steps again .. dfu mode is the best way to restore any apple device

My ipod will not turn on

This can be caused by many problems, it's a bit like saying my car won't start but here is a suggestion or two that might help.
your ipod might not have been used for a while, in which case the battery goes flat, big time.
I have repaired a few ipods in my time and what I do is plug a dead ipod into my computer and leave it connected for a while but make sure that the ipod does not get hot, slightly warm is ok.
while your battery is below an acceptable level the computer will not recognize you have connected your ipod.
give it about half an hour but keep an eye on the temperature of the ipod.
if you get a medium wave radio and tune it to a blank station and sit your ipod on top when you connect your ipod to the computer you should hear a continuous hissing, if you hear the hiss going on and off you might have a battery problem and it might need replacing.
if your ipod does start to come alive you will hear all kinds of sounds beeps whistles coming out of your radio just before the screen comes on telling you the battery is low and it is charging.

hope this helps

I bought an ipod touch from the family of a friend that just died. the battery was dead on it when i bought it and when i charged it all it says is connect to i tunes so i connected it to i tunes and it...

You need to put your ipod into DFU mode
Step 1. Turn off your iPod.
Step 2. Hold down the power and home button.
Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down.
Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that its in restore mode.
Alternative Method:

Step 1. Connect iphone to USB then listen to the sound when it connect and disconnect.
Step 2. Hold the home and power buttons until hear the disconnect sound then release power button.
Step 3. Wait until you hear another sound then release home button.

After you need to restore your ipod

Screen is black and only shows the time and battery

If you found your ipod touch is 'dead', ie won't turn on, holding the power button (top right on
Ipod) does nothing, your comp doesn't even recognise it, iTunes also - then you might need to do the following :

1) Start your iTunes and connect your iPod touch to your comp.

2) Keep holding the POWER button (top right) together with the HOME button (centre, bellow the ipod screen) for about 10 seconds. You should hear a sound(s)..
Release the power button !!!ONLY!!! keep holding the HOME button, you will again hear some sounds.

3) If you did it correctly iTunes will tell you that it has detected an iPhone or iPod touch in recovery mode.

You should be able to re-sync all your previous ipod content from there...

Cheers Mate :)

2) Keep holding the POWER button (top right) together with the HOME button (centre, bellow the ipod screen) for about 10 seconds. You should hear a sound(s)..
Release the POWER button ONLY, keep holding the HOME button, you will again hear some sounds.

3) If you did it correctly iTunes will tell you that it has detected an iPhone or iPod touch in recovery mode.

Ipod dock plugged it, switch to DMPORT no sound from speakers

I had the same problem. I tried everything and finally following two fixed the problem:

Dock insert has to be put before inserting Ipod in the dock. Dock insert usually comes with iPod when you buy it....After inserting the doc I was able to hear the sound but it was very faint. Then I updated the ipod's firmware. My Ipod classic was two years old. I updated the firmware by connecting it to the PC and opening itunes. Clicked on 'ipod' link and clicked to update button.

After the update, this ipod started working with my home theater system's DMPort.

HTH.

Ipod sound through home entertainment

get a stereo to phono cord.
connect the stereo pin to the ipod (ear pin) and connect the phono cord the the input section of the home theatre.
after all this just put on everything and start the music on the ipod.
if it does not come just increase the volume of your home theatre.

hope to hear favourably from u.
thank u and good luck.
have a nice day.

Mp3 player or ipod connection

If you have a CD changer connected it is quite easy, if not I can't imagine a solution.
With a CD changer you need a cinch-Y-cable and a cinch-to-stereo jack adaptor. You connect these two to you ipod and the second port of the cinch-Y-cable to your CD changer.
Then you can burn a CD with no sound on it, but it must not be empty! You can use NERO Waveeditor to record "nothing" for the length of one CD and then burn this file.
If you play this CD in the CD changer and press the play button on your ipod you'll hear your itunes. If you play another CD in your CD changer while listening to your ipod you'll hear both sounds.

Have fun.
