Question about Presto Printing Mailbox Printer for Service

1 Answer

My mother's Presto Printer ink cartridge runs out about every 20 days. She only received about four TEXT pages per day, no photos. What's the deal?

That is surprising. However, the TriColor ink cartridge makes black by mixing the three inks. This is much easier for an elder to change by themselves than a two-cartridge system, but it does run out a bit more quickly. Be sure you use the HP97 ink cartridge. It has twice the ink volume (14 ml) for only 1.5 times the price. And, the original equipment ink cartridges go a lot farther than the cheap non-HP refills. Plus, the HP brand cartridges are the only ones that will report ink level up to the PrestoConnect account manager website. In the end, even a new cartridge every 20 days is WAY cheaper than a computer, software and broadband. And the joy the elder gets from being connected to family is priceless. Hope that helps.

Photo black ink runs out b4 black on HP Photosmart C6380 printer

The black ink cartridge is larger than the photo black cartridge and black is used in photos to make the darker colors. Black text takes much less ink per page.

It will not print black

If it not the obvious - the ink cartridge is empty and needs to be replaced. If so, go to the store and buy a new one and put it in.

If not, be careful. The inside workings of a printer can be damages very very easily.

If you open the printer and make sure the cartridge is full, and was placed correctly into the groove, take out the working color cartridge slowly, watching to see the tiny wire/spring motion. It may have broken on the black side. It could be as simple as putting the wire/spring back in place (just like the working color slot) or clearly broken and missing ... In which case .... BUY A NEW PRINTER. YOU CAN GET A NEW PRINTER THESE DAYS FOR LESS THAN THE PRICE OF NEW INK CARTRIDGES IF YOU LOOK AROUND FOR AN ON-LINE DEAL. THERE MANY 'DEALS' site you can follow or rss feed. If you are patient, in a week or two at most, a deal under $30 (with shipping) will come up. Grab it when you see one. I just bought a HP for under $20 with shipping from Microsoft directly. I got it as a back up, in case mine breaks, or if I RUN OUT OF INK AT A MOMENT OF CRISIS - which seems like a coincidence - but it has been a reality for my own life too many times.

Hey guys! My ESP7 is using an enormous amount of colored ink! I'm on my third cartridge and I haven't printed 20 5x7 pics. Or the 'low colored ink alert' is not properly functioning. Is there any way I...

Page yields are estimates and how many pages (or photos) you get out of a cartridge depends on the percent coverage for each color. In general page yields are based on 5% coverage, which translates to double spaced text. Printing photos uses a LOT of ink and it seems like there isn't much ink in these cartridges to start with. I would not expect that the ink alert is malfunctioning. I own a Cartridge World ink refilling store and I would be happy to give you a recommendation on a printer that would better suit your needs.

New HP F4400 going through ink too fast

It depends what type of things you are printing. If you are printing text, you should be able to print more pages. If you are printing photos, you are using more ink per page. If you use more of one color, you may also run out quicker. You didn't say if you were running out of ink in the black or the color or both cartridges. The black cartridge is rated at 200 pages and the color cartridge is rated at 150 pages. This is based on printing pages that may differ drastically from what you actually print. Here's a web link that explains this in more detail.

http://www.hp.com/pageyield/articles/us/en/IsoInkjetYield.html

Next time you buy a printer, spend a little more and find a printer that has a larger cartridge (check the number of ml (milliliters) in the cartridge). These printers cost a bit more but you will save on the cost of the ink. Cartridges all cost roughly the same regardless of how much ink they have. You can also look at websites that rate each printer cost per black and white and color pages.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Black ink cartridge almost empty in just two days of use..why?

its all in simple math, when you go to by new ink cartridges it should tell you how many pages on average it should be able to print so price/page*15=cost to print a day

Going through ink cartridges too fast

Check the capacity of the ink cartridges (in ml). HP usually has high-yield cartridges which cost more, but have more ink. Also check your printing preferences to see what your quality setting is. Draft quality is fine for most text and saves alot of ink, Normal or High is only needed for photo printing. I believe Normal is the default.

Same as some other complaints at your site about this printer/aio

Your printer does indeed have cartridges...4 in fact, along with 2 printheads. 1 printhead is for Magenta/cyan. The other for Black/yellow.

You know where the printheads are. The ink cartridges are below them. There is a door that pulls down to expose all four.

Here is a link to HP Support for changing your ink cartridges: L7580 Ink Cartridge

Consider XL cartridges...they last much longer.

Also, for reference, here is a link to the User Guide for your printer: L7580 User Guide

Try running a deep clean and after the clean, calibrate the printer. If that doesn't work, call kodak tech support, you may need a new printhead.

Stripes on Images only - Text OK

Perhaps the CMY color heads need alignment. If you have not already done so, run a head alignment from the driver maintenance section. It will print out a page containing several lines and text, and request you select the closest-aligned images. After this is done, do another image print to check for improvements.
Normally, the printer uses the black cartridge for text and the CMY inks for images (even for black on photo and specialty paper). So when you are printing normal text pages on plain paper, only the black ink is used. A good check for this would be to print a normal text page, but select photo paper in the driver to trick the printer into using the CMY inks to make a substitute black text page. If this looks ok, then you are having issues other than cartridge alignment.

Printer will not print in Black at all

Had a similar problem.
It turned out to be poor quality ink refills that I bought at the local mall. Found a good ink supplier who charges $4.00 per cartridge.
Try removing the ink cartridge and cleaning with warm water or a little alcohol and a clean soft cloth or swab in the area where the cartridge is seated
