Question about Numatic Henry Bagged Canister Vacuum

1 Answer

HVR 200 keeps cutting off.

I am a facilities manager and have 4 Henrys(HVR200). They are usually trouble free but one is giving me a problem with cutting off then cooling down and turning back on. I assume they have a built-in safety so the motor doesn’t burn up. It runs no more than 3 to 4 minutes before cutting off. Takes about 30 to 40 secs to come back on. I did a little troubleshooting with removing the top-hat filter (yes, before you ask I had the filter plastic web up) just to see if this was causing the overheating. It still cuts off. Put in a fresh new paper bag with no top-hat filter, still cuts off. Then I removed the bag. Only when I have nothing in the canister it will stay running. I don’t know if there are any serviceable parts that I can replace, but any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time. Dave

Henry has a has a thermal cut off (a thermostat that protects the cleaner in case of motor overheating). When you have no bug inside the hoover will be very cold.
Check if the hose is blocked with dust.heck also the microtek filter, eventually replace with one from different henry. If there is no dust, and filter is OK, then replace the thermal cutoff. to get parts and support contact numatic:Contact.

My Henry Hoover cut out and will not work. Emptied bag and replaced fuse but no success.

If no burning or smelling, maybe nothing to do with motor, and if caused by the safety cut-out, it will need about an hour to cool down, and then check filter, bag, and drop coin through hose, pipes and the floor tool, to check for blockages and to stop it running hot. Damaged cable, worn carbon brushes, broken electrical rewind electrical contacts or even the printed circuit board (later models) are the most likely causes.

Vacuum runs 10-11 minutes then stops if you unplug for a minute it then runs for another ten or so minutes then stops again I heard it was the bypass switch what can I do

Hi, I would say the motor is overhesting and there is a heat sensor in the motor that shuts it off w3hen its labouring. Check your hose for a clog . If that does not help check the filter aorund the motor to see if it is clean. Hope this helps. Chris

Electrical Burning Smell from Henry HVR200 Vacuum Cleaner

Hi! Highly unlikely that you need a new motor.  Highly likely that you need new carbon brushes.  The smell is caused by excessive sparking between the worn brushes and the copper commutator segments.  Most carbon brushes (and from memory I suspect this includes Henry's) have a copper wire buried in their last few millimeters, and you really need to change them before that becomes exposed.   The longer you run it like this, the more likely you are to damage the commutator, so change them sooner rather than later.  When you change the brushes, you can smooth off the commutator with very fine abrasive paper (the objective is to smooth it, not scratch it!), and then blow all the dust away (or **** it away if you have another vac, of course).  Incidentally, you don't say if you are using a paper bag in your Henry. Some people, because the top-hat filter is so good, try to manage without a bag.  This is false economy!  You should always use a bag. I hope this helps! I value feedback, so please remember to rate this response.
