Hi,
It sounds as if the blower motor / fan is not working, or the ducting is blocked.
This needs to be checked ASAP as it can cause a fire risk in older models.

Maytag Neptune MDE3000AYW. The start button on my dryer went out. It tried to start and then died and smelled burnt. I am guessing the switch burned up. Any thoughts on how to fix it? Thanks

sounds like motor is in a bind see if you can rotate drum by hand if you cant then your belt is hung up,or a belt pully is bad,if drum turns freely, sound like motor is going bad

Smells like burnt diesel or very hot smell

Can't help thinking that either you don't have the revised operating instructions, or the "Sensor Dry System" is not working properly. Download the revised instructions here [http://lgknowledgebase.com/kb/index.php?View=entry&EntryID=6231 ] and see if this helps. Otherwise have the sensors in the machine tested.

Just brougth used maytag neptune dryer.model MDE3000AYW

If you are connecting a power cord with a 3-wire configuration, you match the corresponding wire colors from the power cord to the wires on the terminal block in the back of the dryer. The correct color-code is as follows:

RED - HOT (120VAC)
BLACK - HOT (120VAC)
WHITE - NEUTRAL (0VAC)*

*There should be a ground strap or ground wire connected to neutral at the terminal block in a 3-wire configuration.

NOTE: If the wires are not color-coded, the outer two wires (Left and Right) are the HOT leads. The center conductor is Neutral.

If you have any questions, you can refer to this link for further explanation:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575913-installing_a_220_vac_appliance_cord

This explains the difference in 4-wire and 3-wire configurations. I hope this helps you.

classical sign of a bad motor. the motor has a thermal switch on it telling the unit to shut off when it gets hot. after it cools down, the switch will tell the motor to turn back on again. good luck, i'm pretty sure that's your problem. contact me for further help if needed. thanks :)
