The icons and the bar(task bar) at the bottom of the screen are enabled by the explorer.exe file

it starts automatically but in your case it is not starting

to start it when your computer starts and comes at the desktop, press alt+ctrl+delete button at the same time to bring up the task manager

when you do this a task manager shows up in a window

in task manager window click on file, it will be located on the top left portion on task manager

now click on "new task(run)"

this opens another window, in that window type
"explorer"
without the quotes "" and press enter
this will bring you icons and task bar at the bottom of the screen

How do I get my icons on after computer has gone to sleep?

If you are using xp try going to control panel, change the desktop background to anything else in the offered menu, click apply. Then do the same thing again and select the background you normally use. That will sometimes get the icons back up.

How do I remove the background colour from desktop icons

Just click right on the desktop ..and select desktop , than select on the down page the customize desktop and select web (the one in the right ) ..
If you see a web page checked in the tab .. remove it ..and the important thing ..remove the check mark for the lock desktop items cause this is the one responsible for that color present under the icons..and click apply ..and OK ..restart and repeat the action if it seam not willing to do that ..or select windows XP theme again ..and this way probably will default it ..but the way to remove it to unlock the desktop items ..

My window xp has a virus & i had 2 anti virus scanner the AVG & TREATSFIRE..avg is not workin anymore but the treatsfire which i download yesterday is workin, he kill the virus and quarantine

I would firstly recommend sticking to the well known antivirus programs. Many of the free ones off the net are viruses themselves. I would suggest trying to boot into XP's safe mode and seeing if you can uninstall your latest antivirus program.

My PC startup is fine then I get to logon screen. Each user account is different. I have WinXP SP3. I sometimes takes a little longer to hear logon sound, then pauses and finally the desktop comes up....

sounds like your computer is bogging down from to much bloatware. do a disk clean up. and uninstall any unnecessary programs. if this doesn't work you might have to take your computer in to have someone do an optimization on all accounts. that will fix your problem.
