Did you short the battery terminals? (on the machine, not the battery.)

When the screen is white instead of taking out the battery and putting it back in can I do something else?

Not sure why your removing the battery?
If you are shuting down the machine. Close all running programs before shuting down otherwise the machine has to close each program in turn before thr machine can shut down all together. Depending on how the settings are for the power button. The shut down process can be forced by holding down the power button until the machine has shut down. Black screen instead of white. Hope this helps answer your question.

My machine will not charge and is very slow

It ispossible that sometimes the battery takes a longer time to charge if the voltage of the adapter is low. So after the battery is fully discharged , you must allow the charger to be connected overnight. If the battery does not charge fully then the battery and the adaptor must be cross checked in another unit.
If under warranty you must claim for replacement.

Ibm thinkpad x61 reset to original bios rootkit problem ?

Hello,
There are 2 ways you can reset your bios2_bing.gif.

1. On the motherboard there is a small watch battery. Remove this battery along with the power cable from the power supply. Hold down the power button to fully discharge the system. Wait 2-3 minutes then reinstall the battery and plug in2_bing.gif your system. Your reset is now complete

2. Some motherboards have a 3 pin jumper by the battery. Lets say that the jumper is on pins 2 and 3. Remove the jumper while the machine is OFF and place onto pins 1 and 2. Power on your machine for a minute. (Note: Your system will not POST). Shutdown your machine and put the jumper back to pins 2 and 3. Your reset is now complete

This is a great troubleshooting2_bing.gif step for those of you having POST issues or no POSTing at all. Like other troubleshooting steps, this will not always work but usually will depending on the problem.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Thanks.

Password problems on a Toshiba Protege m200 laptop

If you cannot access the machine after if has been powered up, it is still possible to get past the BIOS password.

  1. The BIOS password is stored in CMOS memory that is maintained while the PC is powered off by a small battery, which is attached to the motherboard. If you remove this battery, all CMOS information (including the BIOS password) will be lost. You will need to re-enter the correct CMOS setup information to use the machine. The machines owner or user will most likely be alarmed when it is discovered that the BIOS password has been deleted.
  2. On some motherboards, the battery is soldered to the motherboard, making it difficult to remove. If this is the case, you have another alternative. Somewhere on the motherboard you should find a jumper that will clear the BIOS password.
  3. If you have the motherboard documentation, you will know where that jumper is. If not, the jumper may be labeled on the motherboard. If you are not fortunate enough for either of these to be the case, you may be able to guess which jumper is the correct jumper.
  4. This jumper is usually standing alone near the battery. If you cannot locate this jumper, you might short both of the points where the battery connects to the motherboard.
If all else fails, you may have to clear the BIOS password by resetting the RTC (Real Time Clock) IC (Integrated Circuit) on your motherboard.
Many RTC's require an external battery. If your RTC is one of this type, you can clear the BIOS password just by unsocketing the RTC and reseating it.

Good luck and more power

My laptop turns off when it is not plugged in. Battery doesn't charge fully. Have replaced the battery - same result

It is probably the "Powersave" function that turns off the machine when it is only on battery power and is not being used for a certain length of time. Also if the batteries are not charged properly, the laptop will want to shut down as the power level is becoming critical. So there are two possibilites 1. change the Powersave function and/or 2. drain the batteries entirely and re-charge fully before using them. I have found that batteries work better when they are used entirely before recharging them, so I actually have the Powersave function turned-off. There is probably a Fujitsu Powersave facility that is integral to the laptop, in addition to the Windows one, whether the Fujitsu one controls the Windows one, I'm not sure.

When i turn on my pc it ask for a password i never created, how do i fix this problem

Hello again sounds like it has lost its bios configuration and wants the CMOS re-setting check the hard drive hasn't come loose or your CD if it is an interchangeable one .. and if the floppy drive was in the machine ( not a disk an actual changeable drive ) .was in the last time you shut it down put it back in and reboot see if it's ok unlikely but worth a try
So if no joy you will need to remove the CMOS battery probably located under the keyboard .. or sometimes behind the ram module underneath and a few machines have their own battery holder under the machine .. its silver looks like a large watch battery and is in a plastic holder .. don't touch it with your hands they are static sensitive as are the other components around it .. wear a pair of marigolds the rubber will help protect the circuit ... hope this is a success for you good luck ..
