Hey,

I have a 650W powersupply and I run a Phenom 9650, ati hd4870 1GB card. it works perfectly.

So it seems to me either your 750W powersupply is worn out, or is poor quality, or your windows installation is messed up.

I would recommend you do a fresh install of windows into the computer.

If the problem still remains lets look at the power requirements of the 4870 X2

Quote -
POWER CONSUMPTION While gaming with the HD 4870 X2 our test PC drew 521W

source : http://www.bit-tech.net/custompc/reviews/604626/ati-radeon-hd-4870-x2.html

------

so the card is sucking up around 550W from your powersupply alone - If you have a cheap 750w powersupply, that doesn't provide a stable 750W the powerdrain will be too much to keep the computer stable.

What I would recommend you to do, since a 1000W or 850W powersupply is not cheap. I would recommend you take the computer to a local shop or a professional or someone who has a 1000W powersupply.

Test the computer and the card with a 1000W powersupply, if the problems are gone, then we have figured out the problem, the card sucks out so much power, and the cheap 750W doesn't provide stable enough output (it probably gives 750W - PEAK power, so it goes around 690 to 750, jumps around there and doesn't provide the 750 constantly)

so lets assume your powersupply gives a good 680W , the card sucks 550 leaving you 130w which is not enough to run your hard drives, fans, cd/dvd drive, cpu, memory mainboard etc.

To me this appears to be a powersupply issue.

If these two things haven't solved the problem, I would have to work with the pc myself to find out the issue, but since that is not possible as I'm in finland, you will have to find someone locally to look into the system, as at this point, this is pretty surely a hardware issue, I would also recommend you test the ram on the computer. But a fresh windows into the computer and a more powerfull powersupply should solve the issue, unless the problem is somewhere else, you could try the X2 card on another system and see if the problems appear with another setup.

Update of ATI Radeon HD 2400 is causing problems - my two screen display keeps switching to single screen since the update of Nov. 13th, 2010.

Click the START MENU, click the CONTROL PANEL. Locate the APPEARANCES AND THEMES link. Click the DISPLAY tab or MONITOR Tab. In this option, a DROP BOX MENU will be available. Click the ATI RADEON HD 2400 PRO device. It may say something similar to MULTIPLE MONITORS. After doing so, you may configure the MONITORS as to giving them a position such as MONITOR #1 AND #2. You may do this by DOUBLE CLICKING the monitor example pictures above the drop box menu to verify which monitor will be your main DISPLAY.

I have 4870 installed. i want to activate Second

Running two ATI cards is CrossFire not SLI, and no, you cannot run those two cards together. I am assuming you are reffering the the Video game Second life. The 4870 is still a beast of a card, I find it next to impossible it wont run the game. Make sure you have the latest CCC driver from game.amd.ati.com

My system sees this graphic card (4870) as ATI 4800.WHY?

It will say that because is between the integer of 4800-4895. It doesn't mean the system thinks it's a 4800 it just means it's in that series. Shouldn't be causing you any problems however as the hardware will do all the work regardless of what Windows thinks it is. The catalyst utility should be more accurate by the way,
