I have some problems loading win xp it loads halfway and stops. i work with computers all day. never have an problems. anyone have an idea?
Various versions of Windows will not install correctly and/or hang if the computer's time and date is incorrect. I would also load the BIOS defaults by pressing DEL/F2/F12 on first startup screen to enter the setup utility and reset it to factory defaults. If you are trying to re-install Windows XP make sure you are trying to install the same version of windows the computer had before.
Well personally i hate these computers but, your windows CD might be scratched and or your HD may be corrupted
Hi,
There are a number of reasons why XP won't install or hangs halfway through the install process.
The main culprits are bad sectors on the hard drive. Poorly seated or faulty system memory and of course scratched CD or a dirty optical lens.
You are going to have to go through this troubleshooting process to determine what the problem is and what you have to do to resolve the problem.
Start by cleaning the install disk and the optical lens, remove and clean the system memory and the slots, check the cables and then try to reinstall.
If you run into the same problem i would be suspecting the hard drive.
As far as i know Dell have their own utility.
Turn on the computer. When the DELL™ logo appears, press <F12>
immediately. If you wait too long and the Microsoft® Windows® logo
appears, continue to wait until you see the Windows desktop. Then shut
down your computer and try again.
When the boot device list appears, highlight Diagnostics and press <Enter>.
If you don't have the Dell Diagnostics Utility on the computer then something like Hiren's boot CD will be able to check the drive for errors in the hard disk tools section.
Regards.

Is this during a Windows Installation or during a regular boot-up?
