When your computer starts, meaning as soon as you have pushed the power button
keep pressing the F8 button located on top of your keyboard
press F8 repeatedly till you see a screen asking you the way in which you want to start your computer
in that screen dont select the hibernated mode, just start windows normally

Try unplugging from the a/c adaptor, and removing the battery for a couple of minutes. Replace the battery and turn the computer on. It should be fixed now.

Try booting into the BIOS Screen and resetting to factory defaults. If that fails suggest swapping the hard drive out and re-install the Operating System - Save your old data and migrate the data off the old drive. You can buy an external drive adapter to connect the harddrive to a USB port to migrate you data.
Good Luck!

How can I enable hibernation on my HP Mini 5101?

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa, the world's largest product support community.

Generally all Windows OS has an option for sleep & hibernate.

Windows XP Users
  • Sleep Mode
By letting your computer idle for a period of time, i.e. not moving the mouse/touchpad, or not pressing any keys except when playing a video, the screen or desktop monitor will go dark. You can resume the computer by moving the mouse/touchpad or by pressing any key on the keyboard.
  • Hibernation or Standby mode
Click Start, click on Turn Off Computer, then click Stand By.

Windows VISTA/Windows 7 Users

To put Windows VISTA & Windows 7 in Sleep or in Hibernation, the steps basically the same. First click Start, then click the small arrow head located to the right of the Start Menu, then you click Sleep or Hibernate.

My laptop was on hibernation. now it is not booting. please help

Hibernation is enabled by default in Windows Vista, and is one of the seven options (i.e. Hibernate) that appears on the Vista shutdown menu. Hibernate your Vista system will enable you to quickly restore to existing system state and intact workspace instead of start afresh, run programs and open your documents one by one again. If you do not use the hibernate feature in Vista, and want to delete hiberfil.sys and then recover the space occupied by the big hibernation storage file, the hibernation function can be turned off and disabled.
Unlike Windows XP, users cannot turn the hibernation on or off via Vista GUI interface anymore. Previously users can enable or disable hibernation via Power Options applet in Control Panel. This option no longer available in Windows Vista, which also enables Hibernate ability and creates hiberfil.sys by default. Instead, users have to rely on command line utility Powercf and Disk Cleanup Wizard to disable hibernation in Vista. Microsoft KB920730 provides details on how to disable and turn off hibernation on computer running Vista system. You must log on to Vista with user account in Administrators group to perform these action.

Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt or Cmd, and then click Run as Administrator on the pop up contextual menu.
If you are prompted by User Account Control for permission, click Continue.
At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

powercfg.exe -h off
Type exit, and then press ENTER.

Another easier workaround for those who’re not comfortable to work with command line is to disable hibernation and hybrid sleep feature in Windows Vista is by using Disk Cleanup wizard tool, the built-in Windows disk cleaner to delete hiberfil.sys file. The hibernation file must be enabled to access the hybrid sleep feature and the hibernation feature in Windows Vista.
Click Start button, then go to All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools, and run Disk Cleanup.
Choose which files to clean up, either My files only or Files from all users on this computer is fine.

On “Drive Selection”, select the Windows Vista boot drive to clean up. Note that you must select the drive where Vista is installed, which normally is also the boot drive (C:) as hiberfil.sys file will be located on the root folder of it.

Once Disk Cleanup finishes scanning the system, Disk Cleanup for Vista window will open.
Select and tick the check box next to the Hibernation File Cleaner.

You can select or deselect other type files to clean or preserve from the available items or options in the list provided.
Click OK button when done.
Hibernation will now be removed and disabled.

It will solve your problem.

Compaq Presario laptop C300 - issues (orange light)

Sometimes when a PC gets stuck in hibernation mode, the only way to reset it is to remove the CMOS battery for 10 minutes and replacing it. It resembles a large watch battery and is usually located near the center of the motherboard.

Attempt to turn off hibernation mode in the Windows Power Options.

Start > Control Panel > Power Options
Find the Hibernation option and change it to Never.

This way, the laptop will go to sleep, but not hibernate and store data to the hard disk.

Acer Laptop Stuck in Hibernation Mode!! - HELP!! I have an Acer laptop and was watching my son's wedding video on it when it suddenly flashed up a window saying it was going into .....hibernation mode....

This is normally the result of a discharged battery. I was going to point you to a Vista bug that results in more or less permanent hibernation, but this definitely sounds like a power problem.

I'd ask you if you have tried to run it just off of the power supply with no battery. That works sometimes. Unfortunately, the recent version of the Fixya site will not notify me when you respond.

Another thing to try: Start it in safe mode and do a system restore if possible.
