My weedeater pull rope won't retract back inside when pulled to start, how do I fix this?

Spring is likely sprung out of the recoil. Take the recoil apart, rewind the cord and turn it enough to put some tension on it. Then put the cover back on.

The rope broke when I tried to start the chainsaw. How do I replace it?

Your rewind spring is now sprung. Remove recoil assy ( the part your rope slides into). Remove all old rope remnants and rewind the spring. Install new rope, tie it off and slowly release spring rewinding the rope.

Recoil starter assembly

If you can post the engine make, model and serial number I can get a diagram for you. They are usually stamped in the engine housing. Start by removing bolts to remove cover and check spring. If spring is good you should be able to rewind. You will need to cut rope by handle and pull rope up between spindle and inner housing, rewind rope in direction of pull. Let it rewind while holding tip of rope. When satisfied with tension, push end of rope back through hole in cover and reattach handle. This can be tricky. I am thinking of posting a video of this procedure. Let me know if you have more question's.Good luck.

Try giving a few light tuggs and hopefully the spring will recoil itself. If not, you probably spung the spring and you will need to take apart the recoil assembly to get it working again. BE CAREFUL, springs have a tendancy to just 'jump' out and completely uncoil themselves and then you will have a headache for sure. Also, try reaching under the deck (hopefully the motor isn't running :P ) and turn it counter clockwise while someome one tugs at the rope. Many times it will engage itself and rewind just fine. Let me know what happens

You shouldn't have to remove it. Just wide the disk up again to get tension on the recoil spring (lots of tension... enough to pull the rope all the way back in). poke the rope back out the hole ( the hardest part of the job) and put the handle back on. You should be back in action
