Question about Dell PowerEdge 1600 ( pe1600sc/118/np ) Server

1 Answer

My Dell PowerEdge 840 will not allow me to install Windows 2000 Server software. Evidently, the 840's graphics card does not contain the drivers for Windows 2000 Server. Is there a solution?

I am not sure where you got your information but I just checked Dell's website and they have Windows 2000 drivers for your server which include the video driver.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WNT5&osl=EN&catid=-1&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=PWE_P4_840&hidos=WNET&hidlang=en&TabIndex=)

If you are still having a problem then you should call Dell support. Every Dell server has lifetime free phone support.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

How can i istall windows server 2000 on Dell Poweredge T300

Windows 2000 is not supported on this machine. The closest you could get is using a hypervisor XenServer or VMWare ESXi and then installing Windows 2000 on a virtual machine.

Hi i wanted to upgrade my poweredge 840 and use it for gaming, but it wont let me disable on board gpu. screens just go black, when invidia pluged in. can you help? or is there a MSI motherboard with

The problem that you are having is that the unit you are trying to upgrade is a SERVER, and not a desktop PC. There are notable differences in how servers are built. One is that they are not all that concerned with graphics and graphics performance, since they normally operate "in the dark" and are often accessed remotely. I did some research on the Dell site and saw a comment about your problem in one of their forums. I provide the link below. It should be informative.

I have a dell poer edge 6850 server. it shows scsi disk not found. i want to install windows server 2000. what should i do for that?

To install Windows server 2000 on that machine you will need Dell PowerEdge™ Installation and Server Management CD you can download ISO file from this link:

http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?s=gen&c=us&l=en&cs=&k=Dell+PowerEdge+Installation+and+Server+Management+CD&cat=sup&x=6&y=5

P.S.
Burn that ISO file to CD, start installation from that CD and follow instructions it is quite simple.

Problems installing windows server 2000

Hello,

Make sure the hardware is compatiable with Server 2000. Most of the time you will run into a stale if hardware is not compatiable or windows does not have a compatiable driver for those devieces. If you have the drivers for your hardware, install those at the begining of the server install. (You will see at the bottom of the screen press F3 to install 3rd party drives. After the drivers are installed, you should be able to proced.

Good Luck,

Poweredge 1800 server

Hey,

I looked over the spesifications for the poweredge 1800 servers, go ahead, it will work perfectly but there is one problem in the windows XP setup, you will need to insert / load SCSI or SATA drivers for the hard drive With a floppy disk, or if you don't have a floppy drive your going to need to create a custom windows xp setup cd and add the drivers into it so it can start the SCSI or SATA hard drive and finish the install. without the drivers it might not find the hard drive.

Aside from that I don't see any other problems. You should be able to get the drivers, and everything ese from dell site
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/

Actually I looked over the dell downloads, I see only windows 2000 on the list with windows server 2003, and 2008 and linux distributions.

This could be a 2nd problem, drivers might not be avaialble, or work with xp, but we might be able to get it to work.

So two problems, SCSI or SATA drivers in windows xp / windows 2000 setup

2nd problem is in windows xp drivers, you could try windows 2003's drivers and 2000's and see if they work, if not, then we would have to look for drivers ourselfs from the internet.

So xp might cause headache but we might get it working, windows 2000 seems to be supported perfectly.

Let me know how the project goes
Thanks,
Ekse

The server doesn't boot and when I accessed the container configuration utility - clicked manage containers; my RAID 5 (136.7GB) container is dead and has 2 missing members out of 3. The 3rd one is 68.3GB...

You can download the drivers here:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WNT5&osl=EN&catid=-1&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=PWE_FOS_XEON_4600&hidos=WNET&hidlang=en&TabIndex=
However, due to the many configurations available in the PowerEdge server 4600, there is no way for me to tell you exactly which controller driver to use. You will probably have to make a boot disk to feed the driver to windows 2000.
Comment back with specific controller model numbers, and maybe I can direct you to the correct download.
