Thanks for the suggestion above. My router is a dg834g v2. The strange thing is that when i connect to the router the option for wireless settings is no longer available. i have tried resetting the router with no success.

  • stewartm7 Oct 01, 2009

I have upgraded the firmware to the latest version. But i still can not see the wireless settings.

  • stewartm7 Oct 01, 2009

i will definately try this approach. We had a lightining storm in the area is it possible that that could have caused the wireless to malfunction.

Which version of dg834g do you have
its its v5 then it has a button located on top of it that enables/disables wireless connection
maybe you accidentally disabled it

if its any other version of dg834g the you can enable wireless transmission through the router page

Connect to the router by typing
http://www.routerlogin.net in the address bar of a browser.
if it asks for the id and password enter
id = admin
password = admin or password or leave it empty
these are default id and passwords, if you have changed them enter the id and password that you know

go to Wireless Settings
click on the checkbox that enables wireless transmission
save settings

and you are done

if you are not able to see the wireless setting option that means that your firmware has been corrupted
    go to netgear website
go in their support section and download the latest firmware for your model of the router
then install that firmware through the router page under backup settings

then you will have access to the wire less settings

this is a direct link to the wireless settings
    http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_fi...&...

i checked around the net to find similar problems and came around a fix
if u have a little technical expertize you should try this
try this is you accidentally dropped your router

Disconnect all cables, open the case( 4 small hex tamper proof screws
under the rubber feet. You may need a Torx driver or a small flat
screwdriver works) Open the unit up carefully. The Wireless part of the
router is on a removable SIM type card attached to the main PCB.This
little PCB card dislodges when dropped occasionally.Just plug it back
in and your in business. Then access the router's web brouser interface
and check your settings. All should be OK

    tell me if it works

The only light on my router is the router light. No other lights are coming on. I have tried rebooting.

When facing the router, Globe/Internet LED is on the right. Below are the LED indicators; Check the steps below:

Wireless Security - This light will only turn on if the wireless security is enabled.

Wireless-Computer Status - This light will turn on if a wireless computer is connected to the router.

Wired-computer Status - This light will turn on if a wired computer is connected to the router. Connect the wired computer to any gray port on the router. (There are 4 gray ports).

Router Status - Power light. Solid blue means the router is on and ready.

Modem Status - If this is off, it means the router is not connected to the modem. Make sure the cable is connected from the modem to the yellow port on the router.

Internet Status - This light will indicate if the router is connected to the internet.

If this is the first time you are installing the router, then what is important is to get the router, wired-computer and modem lights ON. Once they are on, you may insert the CD that came with the Belkin router to setup the internet connection and wireless settings.

One desktop and 1 laptop are working that means your router must be working.

1 desktop is not working. Is that wired to the router or wireless ?

If it is wired then check the light on the router, If your computer is connected to port 1 of the router then port 1 light should lit up. If the light is not lit up then check the connection.
If the light is lit up then check the IP address on the computer.

If it is wireless desktop then check the wireless connection.

"wired" light

the wired lights only comes on when there is a Ethernet cable plugged in to a port, each light has its corresponding light Eg. port 1 Light 1.
unless there is a wired connection between a computer, game console, or anything else that you might have that requirres a internet connection the light will not light up, its normal. Note : light does not come on if you are connected wirelessly

The lights are on but the linksys is not working

Certainly if the conection directly from the router to the computer is not working then the wireless won't work. So that's where I'd start. Cable connections could be an issue. The connection without the router works I assume. Make sure you are connected correctly. You need ethernet cabling to the ethernet, networking connections to and from the internet device to the computer and into and out of the router. When you get the direct router connections working you can solve your wireless problems.

Connection dropping

If the lights are flashing - that's OK. Wireless light will flash because the connections and beacon transmission, port lights will flash because of local connections. We can troubleshoot this for a while but I think this might be a problem with the box. Probably the best option is to replace it. In case you would like to play, try to run Ethereal and capture the packets and analyse them.
