Question about Hannspree 19" Widescreen LCD Flat Panel Monitor

1 Answer

Not positive if problem is with Hannspree HF199H or with Nvidia vidio adaptor (NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X), but for a couple of weeks now, I can't get any better resolution that 800x600, 16 bits. Any suggestions? I've tried everything available to me through Control Panel - Display - Settings - Advanced - Monitor (just shows up as Plug & Play Mon.) and Adapter - even to the point of uninstalling the adapter altogether; however, on reboot the system put it back into service. I'm running a Dell desktop on WinXP Pro, SP3 - Pent 4 CPU 2.80GHz, 2.79GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM

Thanks for your help. Everything you suggested makes good sense to me. I'll try uninstalling the driver and downloading a new one from the site you recommended and see if that helps - but your last comment may have signaled where this will end up because the video adapter is original equipment on this system, hence....well,....several years old. That thought has been lurking in the back of my mind all this time I've been going round & round with settings. Any suggestions for vid cards? I'm not a big gamer or into exotic 3-D designs or any such stuff - I do some work with video and photos however, so I do like to know I can count on a vid adapter to give me clear, sharp images, that will support my image tweaking which can sometimes get down to a fairly small set of pixels.

Anyway, thanks again for your help and for anything else you might think of to pass along.

The issue is most likely the drivers of the video card, or the video card itself is failing.

Test the display on another computer to confirm that its working properly.

After that, uninstall the nvidia geforce mx440 from the device manager, right click on My computer and select Manage.then on the left side find Device manager. On the device manager find the display adapters then the geforce card, right click on the card and select uninstall, if it presents the option to uninstall software, check it and uninstall.

you can get new drivers from this page

Download the new drivers and install them, after the setup is complete you will be asked and you need to restart the computer.

After the computer has restarted the proper drivers should be installed and as long as the monitor worked on another computer without problems the monitor should now work with higher resolutions.

If it doesn't, then the issue could be a bad driver for your system and we would have to look for a alternative or the issue could be the old video adapter failing, in that case the video card would need to be replaced.

I don't know where you are at but here is one,

You need a AGPX8 card, they are old and cheap, the one above is a good example and will do everything you need to do on the computer as its much more newer and I assume more powerfull than the several years old MX 440.

The name of the card I linked is

    GeForce FX 5200

    AGP 4X/8X Video Card
Any agp 4x/8x card will do, you can probably get one for free from some local computer recycling shop or for few dollars from a used computer parts place. etc..
