Having not been used for about 9 months the picture reproduction on my DVD player is fine but the audio pitch is too low. That is, the voices are much slower and deeper than they should be. I've tried a lens cleaning disk but it didn't do the trick. Any suggestions, please?
This is not a hardware issue, I.E. cleaning the laser. It will most likely that since it has been in storage, your menu setting may have been reset. Without a dvd in the player, go to you menu on the remote. Look under audio option. There will be settings that can be changed to fix this. Let me know if this works, I will research and try to find another solution.

Regarding the problem with the sound on your DVD player, I would suggest you to make sure the audio cables (red and white) are connected properly to the TV and player.
Also, try using a different set of cables since those ones might not be working and this is why you are not getting audio. On the Memorex remote you will find a mute button, make sure it is not activated.
check all the audio and video cable's connected to tv and dvd player.
you may have forgot the wire color's (audio and video) there would be one wire for video and two for audio. some times there would be a RF socket also. so, see the right sockets and connect to tv by interchanging wires.
Digital output is for the reproduction of 5.1 or higher surround sound. Though it will support 2.0 audio it is not meant to be hooked up to a tv, but meant to be hooked up to a surround sound reproduction device.
playback and record are 2 different things.
playback, you connect the DVD player audio-video OUT to the audio-video IN of the TV.
recording, you connect the DVD player from the audio-video IN to the audio-video OUT of the source (i.e. cable box, set-top box, etc)
hope this helps!
