Hi,
Here is an operators manual that should help you.

http://education.ti.com/downloads/guidebooks/graphing/84p/TI84PlusGuidebook_Part2_EN.pdf

It's a PDF document. You can search the word "powers" and find all references to using these notations.
I don't have a TI-84. I used my PC calculator with the button x^y ....... 1.0595 {x^y} 2.5 {+/-} ..... to obtain:
0.86546118972999206534043790630855
Check me... please... ha
Hope this helps...

Need to know how to power a number???

You can use the universal power key. On the screen capture it appears below the hyp key (second row, the one before last)debc9eb.jpg

To enter 1000 to -.415
1000 [y to x] [(] [+/-] .415 [)]

where [+/-] is the change sign key.

Would not power up.

Having gone over a month with no response, I assume this is no longer a problem.

I'm trying to find 1.00026712 to the 1825th power. I tried it with the y to the x function and it said error. does anyone know why?

Hi,
I see no reason why you should not be able to calculate that power. The result, as expected is close to 1, in fact 1.62812476. It is more likely due to a manipulation error on your part.
Try to calculate 1^(1825). If you do not get an error, then it must certainly be a manipulation error. To make sure you do it correctly, here is the correct syntax.
1.00026712 [Y to the x] 1825 [=].

Hope it helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.

How to get the square root using a ti-30xa calculator?

Come on now....there are dedicated "square" and "square root" keys on the TI-30XA....

Enter your number e.g. 4, then press the "root x" key to get 2...

Press "x squared" key to get the square of 2 = 4

There's the even more useful "y to the power x" key and it's inverse "xth root of y" key.

E.g. Enter 2, then press the "y to the power x" key, then 5, then =, answer is 32 (2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2). Starting with 32, pres 2nd then the "y to the power x" key, then 5, then =, answer is 2, the 5th root of 32....
