Hi,
First of all if it will let you press F2 and see if you can reset the BIOS to default configurations. Hit F10, save the changes and exit the BIOS.
The computer will restart and hopefully boot to the operating system boot screen.

If it's still freezing on post then remove the battery and the AC power supply. Turn the laptop over and locate the RAM (memory) cover and remove the holding screw.
Take out the system memory and clean the brass contacts, also clean the slots that the memory sits in.
Re-seat the memory making sure it clips into place nice and tight and replace the RAM cover.

Return power to the laptop and turn it on to see if that has helped.

Good luck.

How do I enter setup when there is no option to enter

F2 is your bios setup, and F12 is the boot order selection, if you cannot access the two options there is no other way. That shows up when the Toshiba logo is visable. If your windows run properly I would not risk formatting the hard drive. But it might be worth contacting Toshiba, customer and technical support about the unusuall situation.

How can i boot my dell studio from cdrom so i can reinsall from external drive?

Turn on the machine, press F12 once the Dell splash screen is displayed, the boot menu will show up. From the Boot Menu, use up-down arrow keys on the keyboard and highlight the CD/DVD/CD-RW and press Enter. You will see another menu, select "Boot from Cd-Rom" and press enter to select it. The system will boot up from the CD-Rom. Please note that this settings is only for one time boot, once the system is restarted, the boot sequence will be restored to the previous saved settings. If you wish to set it from the Bios, enter the Bios settings by hitting F2 or Delete (should be shown at the bottom of the Dell splash screen) while you see the Dell Splash Screen. In the Bios settings menu, go to Boot options and make the changes with the boot sequence.

Let me know if you need further help.

Good Luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I need to change the boot sequence on a cisnet, The normal F2

It usually says on the splash screen (right when you boot the computer) what button to press to enter Setup. It may say CMOS or BIOS. All 3 will take you to the same place.

Pressing F12 will take you to a Boot Menu, but it won't save permanently the device you choose to boot to using this method, so you'd have to do it everytime.

My thinkpad crashed and won't boot up. when the screen does come on i get press F1 or F12 how do i recover?

What does it say on the screen. Sometimes it's something as simple as the computer is trying to boot off of a cd or floppy. If you enter setup (probably F2) you can change the boot options to Hard Disk.

During boot up, screen goes directly to windows screen....it does not display F2 or F12 to enter setup or F11 to do system recovery. How do I get this screen to show up?

In the bios boot some OEMs set it to show the splash screen instead of the "Press F2..." to see this screen press esc when you see the manufacturers logo.

There are 2 steps you can do to fix the problem

1. Change the USB Emulation Setting in the BIOS
NOTE: It is recommended to disconnect any USB devices before performing the following steps.
Restart the system.
Wait until the Dell Logo appears.
At the Dell Logo screen, press F2 right away to enter the System Setup.
The System Setup screen will appear.
Press the down arrow key to highlight Integrated Devices (LegacySelect Options).
Press Enter.
A small box with a list of devices appears in the middle of the screen.
Press the down arrow key to highlight USB Emulation.
The default setting is On.
Press the Space Bar on your keyboard to change the setting to No Boot.
Press the Esc key.
The small box disappears.
Press the Esc key again.
A small box with list of options appears in the middle of the screen.
Make sure that Save Changes and Exit is highlighted in blue.
Press Enter.
The system will then restart.
The recommended changes have now been made to the BIOS.

Brand new notebook .. windows then, screen freeze..acer picture

This may require a "repair" of windows.

Get a Windows XP Operating system disk with the correct service pack that the notebook has installed (usually XP SP2).

1. Boot from it (put it in CD drive and restart the laptop).

2. If you still get the same problem start up, you need to set the laptop to boot from CD.

3. Restart laptop, press Delete key or F2, or F12 (it should say one of these on the screen) to enter the Setup. or another key to get "boot options"

4. In Setup (BIOS) Use Right Arrow to find the Boot Options. Use the instructions to move the CD-ROM to first position, above HDD (hard drive). Press Esc, then F10 to save your changes and exit.

5. The XP CD Rom should now run. It should come to a screen where you are asked to press R to repair windows.

6. When it comes to the command prompt, restart the laptop

Hopefully the laptop should boot OK again.
